IEDs or Booby Traps?!

Bear in mind that I'm not an engineer, but there is a Canadian IED publication available on the DIN AEL (B-GJ-005-316/FP-004).

Take that definition and apply it to say, a car bomb. See where the confusion is? The textbook descriptions are stepping on each other. So would an IED be a sub-group of the Explosive type of BT?

Red_Five: I don't have access to the DIN, can you cut and paste a def?

While the ref is unclassified, I'm afraid that that doesn't mean that I can post it here (there are restrictions).  Bear in mind that AAP definition given in the post above for an IED does not mention initiation means.  That being said I'm going to stay out of the debate (booby trap vs IED).  I just wanted to point people in the direction of the latest publication if they had DIN access.

Please forgive me for being evasive!

Cheers
