Indicated Army on application, but directed to Navy

Hello all,
In my recently completed online application, I indicated that I would like to join the Army, Primary Reserves. I did this after confirming that my first-pick trade was available at my local Army reserve unit. However, the email I received a few days after submitting my application, instructed me to contact my local Navy reserve unit to discuss details of the onboarding process (e.g. options available, training expectations, etc.) with the Navy. Is this a case of channeling reserve recruits to where they're needed most? I’m happy to serve Canada where I’m needed most; I was just wondering if this is standard practice.

Thanks.

Just contact the number they gave you and tell them what happened. If you prefer the Army Reserve that is fine, they will help you out. If you find out you actually would like to do a Navy occupation instead that is great too. Either way contact them and they will direct you in either continuing forward or changing environments :)

They probably just sent you the wrong number, it's the actual unit which tells you if their hiring or not. The CFRC or ottawa generally just handles the recruiting process, not the actual recruiting.

This could definitely be the case too.

Just give one of them a call and they will be able to assist you.

The CFRC does not start any of an applicants (Reserve) recruitment process until such time that they have a Letter from the unit accepting that applicant.  That is how the CFRC in Ottawa works.

If you have been to one of the Ottawa units and through their recruiting process, they would have given you a letter to take to the CFRC in order to start your Recruitment documentation and processing.  If this happened, verify with that unit what has gone on, and their Recruiter should be able to sort it out with the CFRC.  If this is indeed the case, it is likely that someone at the Ottawa CFRC made an "administrative error" (Not unheard of)  and the unit Recruiter should be able to get it corrected.

Just for clarification "the letter" Mr. Wallace is referring to, is known as a statement of understanding or "SOU". when visiting the Unit ask for an SOU, the recruiter will then give you a piece of paper outlining the different aspects of the job your applying for and how training works.

Also try calling ahead to make sure the recruiter is available, if not leave him a message or try another regiment.

Oh and just because your applying for a job doesn't mean you will get it, so it's best to keep other options available.

Good Luck  :warstory:

You don't mention just what "occupation" you are applying for nor the area that you are applying in, so your question is difficult to answer.

To answer your question, online applications are not channeled to where reserves are needed the most, they are merely forwarded directly to your closest CFRC for processing.

Thank you everyone for your replies and advice.  I called the recruiters for Army and Navy to sort out the issue. Apparently, the online e-form is experiencing technical problems with certain web browsers. I was told that some check boxes have occasionally been shifting from one box to another, or un-populating altogether. I actually started my application using Firefox, saved it, and logged out. When I logged back in to complete the last couple of pages, I did so using IE, which I believe is what caused the bugginess.

That would make sense....

Firefox or Chrome work much better than IE.
