Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

And Raytheon has converted the Swedish Excalibur into a cannon launched version of the Stormbreaker Small Diameter Bomb. Putting the round onto the same wavelength as the British Brimstone and the Swedish Strix. Punt it into the nearest grid square and the round will find its own target.

For use in the M777ER future cannon (L52 or L55)

.... Ish

Ukraine is supplying something for everyone.

105 or 155
Towed or SP
Guns or Rockets
Or all of the above....

The Poles want to equip their territorials with truck-mounted 105s like the Hawkeye. Apparently what they saw in Ukraine impressed them.

I wonder if a portee version of the 105 could be developed using the Hawkeye recoil mechanism. Then it could be fired mounted and dismounted. A Canadian development opportunity?

"Another" would indicated there had been at least one before this, but . . .

AM General said that its contract with Kosovo marks the first sale of the HUMVEE Hawkeye since its inception.

It doesn't say how many they are buying but based on the fact they currently have only mortars for their three infantry regiments, I'd guess one 18-gun battalion at best.

🥱

I was meaning another post.
You're right it is the first sale and I wouldn't consider Kosovo a first line customer.
Still, everybody has to start somewhere.

"According to reporting by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the Taiwanese government requested the purchase from the United States of forty (40) new M109A7 Paladin self-propelled howitzers, along with a significant package of support vehicles intended to perform ammunition resupply and recovery roles.

"The package, valued at more than US$4 billion, includes—beyond the M109A7 howitzers themselves—the provision of sixty (60) M992A3 ammunition resupply vehicles, as well as thirteen (13) M88A2 recovery vehicles. It also includes the sale of up to 4,080 guidance kits—presumably M1156—to equip 155 mm projectiles, in addition to Integrated Fires Tactical Data System (IFATDS) artillery command-and-control systems."

So the HIMARS LRPF launcher with capabilities beyond 500 km, is strengthening its tactical fires capabilities by adding 122mm rockets.

"The missiles will have a range of just over 40 kilometers and will be produced in Vandel using technology provided by Serbian defense company EDePro. SkyPro says the rockets will carry a 24 kg warhead and cost about EUR 10,000 per unit.

"They are likely to be G-2000SL+ rockets adapted for other launch systems, initially designed for the Soviet-era Grad MLRS."

The PULS system already has 122mm pods. They carry 18 rounds.

And the Israelis have Precision Guidance kits for the 122s

Homegrown solutions for Ukraine

UKrainian knockoffs of the L52 CAESAR and the L39 M777.

Apparently the L52 M777 is not a favourite, it being harder to handle.

So it appears that the Ukrainians are prioritising simplicity and durability. CAESAR and M777 are sufficiently survivable with the right tactics.

Ukraine is also now locally producing 105mm copies of the L118/119 showing that they value the 105mm still despite the shorter range.

Mortars are still popular but....

"Ukrainian Armor (part of NAUDI) doubled its armored vehicle production this year compared to last year, according to the company's CEO Vladyslav Belbas. Meanwhile, mortar production remained roughly unchanged, at over a thousand units per year.

"The head of Ukrainian Armor shared this information in an interview with delo.ua. Belbas emphasizes that mortar production has stayed at the same level for two reasons: limited demand and the fact that the company has already reached its maximum production capacity."
