Indirect Fires Modernization Project - C3/M777 Replacement

Pretty soon you are going to see mainstream munitions optimized for drone drops and carry. They won't have to survive the detonation and sudden acceleration, so more weight to filler and fragmentation.
Ie. grenades and plain ordinary air-delivered bombs.

Not sure a novel category is needed. But as you say, there probably aren't many unguided grenades/bombs designed to deliver simple natures other than HE, yet.

HEAT and HESH air drop might become a thing. I suspect that the RPG warheads lend themselves well to kamikaze FPV drones, with little modification.

Denel increased the lethality of 105 HE rounds by recreating the old Shrapnel shell and packing the shell full of tungsten pellets. Much like the GMRLS rounds.

How are we progressing with 3D printing of shell cases and the explosive filling so that lethal pellets can be added?

Why would you want to 3D print a casing? In what way would that be an improvement over stamped/extruded metal casings?

I wouldn't be surprised.
Come to think of it wasn't the American bazooka originally designed around the 60 mm mortar round and the first drone dropped munition I ever saw was footage of and ISIS drone In Syria (I think ) that used (surprise ) a 60 mm mortar round.
What goes around comes around I guess .
I wonder how how it would be to build one around a pair of M 72s .....now where did I put that baling wire?

.

Possibly cheaper and quicker?

Someone needs to show their math.

Pure supposition on my part.

There seems to have been a tendency to shut down smelters, foundries, mills and forges since 1915 as iron and tin have been supplanted by aluminum, plastic and silicon. This appears to be having an impact on the ability to recreate facilities that produce conventional arms. The process is underweigh but is taking time.

In the meantime, additive manufacturing is producing lethal systems in real time from plastic and silicon as well as metals. It is also being used to produce explosives and solid rocket fuels.

The human body is fragile. It doesn't take much to damage it. In 140 AD Romans used mass produced lead bullets to attack Burnswark Hill in Dumfries, Scotland. Around 3500 BC Hamoukar in Syria was defended by thousands of locally manufactured clay pellets. In both cases the launch system is believed to be the sling.

What is the fastest, cheapest method of eliminating competition?

Could 3D shells be filled with pea gravel to lethal effect?

ISIS started their own arms industry, casting mortar bombs was one of the first things they started doing, when their factories were overrun, large quantities of empty mortar bombs were found.

3D printing of AGR-21C 70mm Hydra APKWS II rocket motors and fuel at a rate of 10,000 a month (120,000 a year).

Canada donated 80,000 surplus CRV-7 rocket motors to Ukraine.

Thales is increasing their 70mm rocket production from 1,000 units annually to 5,000 on the way to 20,000 by 2028. This is to support the production of the FZ LGR275 Proxy, the Thales analog to the BAE APKWS II.
