I am playing with the idea of becoming involved with a reserve unit locally. Perhaps you can help by answering a few questions.

1. Am I toooooo old. I am 46.

2. I have a couple years in the US Army back in the 80's. I was enlisted, Infantry. Stationed in Mainz, West Germany. Took an 'early out' as my mother was dying of cancer at the time. Left with an E3 rank but held Usareur Rank of E5.  I am a Canadian citizen, born on a CFB in West Germany.

3. I would be interested in the possibility of an Officer position in a reserve unit.

4. When I first left the US Army back in the late 80's, I candidated for an officer position with a Canadian reserve unit in Simcoe. Went to an officer review board in Brantford at the time.

5. I have accumulated about 3 years of university, but no degree. I am working on finishing online.

6. My son is in cadets here in town, and it has reawakened my desire to be involved in the military again. What, off hand, are my chances of getting in as an oficer candidate in local RCR or 1st Hussars??

Thanks anyone, for any advise...

Okay, so I'm new here. Just saw all the information above that says 'read all this before posting a question about enlisting in a reserve unit'... so before someone bites my bum about not reading, I'm going now to start to filter through all the above info.

Well.  Several questions.  Perhaps a few quick answers.

No.  You are not toooooo old; if you are in shape.   ;D

You have to meet the Residency and Citizenship requirements, which are covered in topics in this Recruiting Forum, and accessible with a quick Search.  There is also an Enhanced Reliability (Security check) that has to be done.

As for Officer positions and what unit, you would best be advised to actually pay those units a visit and talk to them.  That should give you more info, and a little more info as to how to approach the CFRC in you application process.  Browsing some of the topics here may also help you to get the feel of how the process works and the time lengths that it sometimes takes
