I am applying for MARS Officer DEO and I found the documentary program WARSHIPS on the Equator HD channel very helpful.

Of course, the show doesn't talk at all about recruiting or basic training or any of that stuff.  But what it does VERY well is give you an up close and personal look at life on Canada's warships in their current (or at least as of spring 2009) operations in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean.

There are six episodes in total and I was very impressed at the detail that they put into each one.  Everything is filmed in HD so it looks very real.  You get to see refueling operations, a man overboard drill, 2 different boarding parties making contact with other vessels and lots more.

If you are seriously thinking of joining the NAVY for any Officer or non-commissioned trade then I highly recommend you see that show.  If you don't get the channel then find a friend who subscribes to Expressview Satellite with Bell and go see the re-runs.  I recorded them all with my PVR and I watch them over and over and learn more each time I see them.

Good luck to all.

Good tip, thanks. I just ordered the package that includes The Equator Channel on Rogers. If you subscribe they give it to you free for the first month with the option to cancel after that, I'll check out the channel, but I will probably just PVR the series then dump it before I'm charged.

Cheers
Mark
