i had a run in with the police when i was 18, im 20 now, i got a conditional discharge so its off my record now. I wrote on my medical sheet that i have tried weed about 3 times. Last time i tried it was 2 years ago. THese are two no no‘s when it comes to joining the army reserves. However, the last thing i want to do is lie to my interviewer and I feel that if i admit my mistakes and take full responsibility for my actions. I go to university, i take global studies and polictics. These subjects have made me want to join the army with all the bad stuff I have seen outside of Canada. DO you think that im screwed for geeting in? I know Captian who is going to interview me isn‘t going to be to pleased with my 2 downfalls. I‘ve been a captian for almost all my sport teams and have good refrences. I just don‘t like my odds when i have these two things.

You seem to have a good reason for wanting in, that will probably help your cause. I was arrested and did pot also, but I had been clean for 18 months prior to my application to the CF. I was honest about everything on the medical sheet and with the interviewer and had no problems. Honesty works best in these situations. Make it clear that all that crap is behind you and you shouldn‘t have any problems, it‘s not like getting interrogated by the CIA. More important is to be up to date on current events and the role of the CF as a whole.

Hmmm, I suspect that you are going to get slammed with posts telling you to do a search for this information.

The information is readily available on the DND recruiting site and the are many threads on this site covering the topics "marijuana" and "criminal record". Type those and similar key words into the search feature and you‘ll see.

The short answer to your concerns would be, no those things won‘t be a big deal if you have truly put it all behind you.
