IPC Calculation

Good Day,

I turned down my TOS to return to reg force and have applied for Air Reserve instead. They came back with TOS yesterday. In my reg force offer I was given Cpl IPC 4, TQ5 Provisional. In my reserve offer they have given my Cpl IPC Basic TQ5 Provisional.

I was credited with 12 yrs and 100 and some days. Is there an error in the IPC calculation? I thought I read (can't find it now) that IPC was based on time credit.

Thank you for responses. This is time sensitive as I'm supposed to complete the in routine on Monday.

Also, is this something that can be administered after enrollment or am I stuck with the IPC if I sign? It's only a matter of $10 a day or so, but my intent is to transfer to reg force once my Provisional is removed. I don't want to make a $10 error now that could be a $10K/yr error in a year.

Air reserve class B VS Reg force salary carries a 15% difference to start with.  So Reservist @ 85% of Reg salary is something you should consider.

WRT the differnce in IPC.... if it's a mistake, you can correct it after the fact via your OR.  If it's not.... you're sorta stuck with it.

Cpl IPC 4 is as high as it gets.  There is no higher IPC for Cpl.  IPC has nothing to do with time served.

TQ5 Provisional sounds like the "standard" which all would be offered in a case like this.  The "Provisional" would be up to the gaining unit to lift when they assertain that a member has reached all expectations and is qualified to that level. 

Why you would turn down a Reg Force offer, and then accept the identical offer from the Air Reserves has me wondering what you are thinking.

Hi George, they aren't identical offers. The reg force offer was actually better as it was ipc 4, the reserve offer is actually less at IPC Basic, both on the standard pay scale.

The reason I turned down the reg force offer is that I have a full time job in which I make substantially more than I would in the forces which is not a long term concern of mine. I'm a spec trade as well. The provisional means I don't get spec pay until i get the provisional removed. I did a cost benefit analysis. I'm better off, financially, staying at my job while I get the provisional removed, then coming in on the spec scale instead of the standard scale.
