Iran Super Thread- Merged

That certainly puts the "TACO" and "No New Wars" slogans out of fashion.

Not a whiff of congressional authorization. Not a hope of expecting any, though, nor that any information provided to Congress would have a hope of remaining confidentially held if it could be exploited for domestic political advantage.

Canada and Australia have expressed a degree of support. Democrats have expressed a degree of opposition. Israel and a couple of Arab states on-side. The world has become a weird place.

If Iranians can find and fill a vacuum, almost all will be forgiven, depending on the nature of the "fill". Kurds might be expected to complicate a transition. The US will have to find the fine line between preventing the regime from successfully defending itself, and ham-fisted interference with whatever Iranians decide a replacement should be.
Its going to be interesting to see how the Russians will be able to support whatever assets they have left in Syria going forward if Iran falls and the new despotic regime (because they have zero historical link to democracy) is pro-US and anti-Russians. Not sure of the flight path they will have to Syria. Shipping for miliary assets is closed to them via the Straits through Turkey.

The Baloch people in the poorer Eastern regions of the country have also been restive. If Iran implodes they could try to go their own way which could result in more bloody fighting. The Balochi are also of the Sunni faith, not Shia like the rest of the country and have lots of cousins across the border in Pakistan, which might complicate things even further..

If they go their own way that will most likely destabilize Pakistan as they have had huge issues with a Balochi uprising in the past.

TACO has always been nonsense.

AlOn the “no new wars”, as long as he does not put thousands of 18 year old riflemen on the ground like previous ME/SE Asia wars then he hasn’t crossed too far from his mantra. He has a history of decisive and successful kinetic strike actions.

... He has a history of decisive and successful kinetic strike actions.
One person's "strike action" is another's "you broke it - who'll fix it?" We'll have to see how this unfolds now.

Meanwhlie, something from some Pahlavi guy ...

My dear compatriots,

Decisive moments lie before us.

The assistance that the President of the United States had promised to the brave people of Iran has now arrived. This is a humanitarian intervention, and its target is the Islamic Republic, its apparatus of repression, and its machinery of killing—not the country and great nation of Iran.

However, despite the arrival of this assistance, the final victory will still be achieved by us. It is we, the people of Iran, who will finish this task in this final battle. The time to return to the streets is approaching.

Now that the Islamic Republic is collapsing, my message to the country’s military, law enforcement, and security forces is clear:

You have sworn an oath to protect Iran and the Iranian nation, not the Islamic Republic and its leaders. Your duty is to defend the people, not to defend a regime that has taken our homeland hostage through repression and crime. Join the nation and help ensure a stable and secure transition. Otherwise, you will sink with Khamenei’s ship and his crumbling regime.

And my message to the President of the United States, President Trump, is this:

The honorable people of Iran, despite the brutal repression and killings carried out by this regime, stood bravely for nearly two months. I now ask you to exercise the utmost possible caution to preserve the lives of civilians and my compatriots. The people of Iran are your natural allies and the allies of the free world, and they will not forget your assistance during the most difficult period of Iran’s contemporary history.

And to you, my dear compatriots in Iran:

In these sensitive hours and days, more than ever we must remain focused on our ultimate goal: reclaiming Iran.

I ask you, for now, to remain in your homes and remain calm and safe. Stay alert and ready to return to the streets for the final action at the appropriate time, which I will communicate to you.

Follow my messages through social media and satellite media. If disruptions occur in the internet and satellite broadcasts, I will remain in contact with you via radio. We are very close to final victory. I hope to be with you as soon as possible so that together we may reclaim Iran and rebuild it.

Long live Iran.

Reza Pahlavi

Peace through strength. Attacking Iran and dismantling the Islamic cancer will make the Middle East better off.

I see Iranian forces attacked the Burj Khalifa with drones and a ballistic missile. Thankfully they missed the structure but hit the large plaza right next to it.
A hit on that building would have been shitty for everyone.

So awesome to see some of you finally off the no new wars garbage. It was always a dumb thing to claim to begin with.

We're staying out of it.
