Israel and the US (predominantly the former) have had to bear most of the costs of Iran's troublemaking for the past almost-five-decades. Almost everyone else not in the immediate neighbourhood enjoys approximately the status of gated community dwellers - content to ignore the troublemakers as long as they don't show up inside the gates and the shit lands in someone else's lap.Right, and the dumb bastards apparently didn’t think of fertilizers, or petrochemical feedstock for generic medications… A failure to view Hormuz through anything but an oil lens is excusable at some levels, but not at the level of those who make decisions about going to war and managing the consequences thereof.
Suddenly the costs of Iran dragging people into a fight have been spread around, a lot. Current administrations in Israel and the US might not care as much as some people think they ought to.
