Iran Super Thread- Merged

I'm again surprised to see that the Iranian Air Force is still flying. Armed YAK-130 trainers and MiG-29B reportedly conducting counter-drone patrols over Tehran

We can agree on the main issue; CENTCOM leaders, planners, and assigned forces.

The link to policy objectives may not be entirely visible to the rest of us and it is my opinion the US is not being used as an Israeli proxy, but we both know opinions vary and are greatly influenced on one's political beliefs. Whether Cabinet is competent or not is also an opinion. I like what I see from Rubio and Hegseth so far, much better than what I see in our own country.

From my standpoint, if the main objectives are achieved without major combat losses and doesn't result in decade+ of rotating boots on the ground incurring never-ending casualties, it will be a success.
Just couldnt resist using this to somehow shit on our country eh? Its like a compulsion.

I wonder how long Turkey can go to that well? Rumours of Baloch uprising as well. Im not sure a general civil war in Iran is a good thing

That Baloch uprising could then a Pakistani invasion. And what do people think will happen if the Persians perceive their neighbours are trying to carve up Iran? Pakistan is already citing its pact with Saudi.

Huh. You seem to be able to turn any topic into flagellation of Canada and Canadians for not being....America? That level of self-loathing is probably not good for ones health

When culture wars rot your brain...

A broken clock is right twice a day.

The Yanks didn’t bother to build an international coalition for this op, or justify their action to their allies. When they’re left in the lurch and the cities become targets, people tend to get a little pissed.

The mullahs are in survival mode. They aren’t going to hunker down like in other strikes.

I am surprised more by how poorly this is planned. I guess I shouldn't be. If they weren't going to build a broad coalition, then should have been deploying as much of their own forces as necessary to avoid contagion. The second and third order impacts are going to accelerate:

That smelter makes 9% of the world's aluminum.

I really wonder what's going through Xi's brain right now. Surely all their war games said they'd get crush. But Iran is now taking shit from the E-Waste pile, hooking it up to lawn mower engines and causing billions in damage while the US can't defend. I wouldn't be surprised if the conclusion is, "Even the gods can bleed."

There's also the low cost incredible mods Iran is doing. In one case a rocket assisted terminal munition.

As a weapons guy this is cool. As a uniform who has to think of the implications, this is horrifying for trying to defend against.

I suspect a key lesson they are taking away is more that America can hit what they want, when they want. Even when you have the most advanced Russian AD systems available.

If anyone is surprised at eventually waves of cheap drones made it through to known fixed radar installations, they haven't been paying attention to the war thats been going on for the last 4 years.

We may have the first SSN kill of a surface combatant since the Falklands. An Iranian frigate has sunk just off of Sri Lanka, with most of the 180 member crew dead or missing and some survivors recovered. It’s being widely reported as a submarine attack, though Sri Lanka denies it. The light frigate, IRIS Dena, was in Sri Lanka for the Indian Navy’s International Fleet Review.

I don't think anybody doubted America's power projection. But so far this is actually going worse than the initial invasion in 2003. Nobody else in the region (except Israel) were really taking hits in 2003. And Iran is obviously no near-peer.

I think people are surprised that the US (and allies) can't defend critical assets worth tens to hundred of millions against cheap drones.
