Iran Super Thread- Merged

The coming economic crisis will probably end this war.
Full stop it will - it will happen before anything else occurs.

Think back to just about this time last year when rumours came out about Carney talking with some of the other G7 leaders about US debt/treasury’s and the US bond rates spiked wicked high over a 2 day period and Trump shut right up quick.

My bet is Trump TACOs this weekend or the next. He's not ready for the economic devastation and stock market crashes that will happen if this thing goes two more weeks. Next weekend will be a month. That's when oil inventories really start drawing down. And we'll really start economic breakdown and chaos as oil prices shoot up.

Real talk though - what are we even doing there? No one has really been able to tell me thats been on Impact. How exactly are we helping to stabilize Iraq by training these guys?
NMI Staff positions to keep a token presence for the most part.

Op AMARNA (new name for IMPACT) was shifting way from the Iraq and Syria stabilization and went whole hog into the CTAT-L and CTAT-J missions, whille maintaining TFME HQ. OSH-SWA still maintained a presence in Kuwait, but that was dwindling even up until earlier this month.

Everything is anyone's guess now that the US-Israel vs Iran conflict kicked off.

My (worthless) two cents is all that time and money would be so much better spent on training either Ukrainians or soldiers in our own backyard like Haiti. I get showing the flag matters but in my opinion the less entanglement we have in that quagmire known as the Middle East, the better.

Exuere vel Secedere I guess.

We claim to be a middle power and want to maintain influence in that region, it means we needed to have a presence (even a token on) in the region.

Trump may be about to bail, and leave the disaster for everyone else to clean up.

It's easy to meet your objectives when they were never clearly defined to begin with...and you have no desire to meet said objectives in reality, where it matters most, and instead rant about how awesome you are in social media....

Meanwhile leaving the Khomeinist regime in place, stronger than it was before.

There's no way the people will be able to oust them anytime soon.

"With two Amphibious Ready Groups heading to the Middle East, there is increasing speculation that the U.S. will try to seize Iran's strategic Kharg Island."

USS Boxer The Second Amphibious Assault Ship Now Heading To Middle East (Updated)
Ummm...to get to Kharg Island you'd need to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and along almost the entire coastline of Iran. I very seriously doubt that even this administration would do something so stupid.

If they were planning on taking Kharg Island I'd be watching for the 82nd Airborne to be moved into theatre rather than another ARG, but to be honest I don't see the point of dropping a bunch of troops 35km off the mainland where they can be targeted by drones when they can halt any Iranian oil operations there through aerial interdiction.

As far as the Marines go, I'm not even sure what target on the Iranian mainland would make a significant military difference in this war without putting their ships and troops at unnecessary risk.
