Iran Super Thread- Merged

Ummm...to get to Kharg Island you'd need to pass through the Strait of Hormuz and along almost the entire coastline of Iran. I very seriously doubt that even this administration would do something so stupid.

If they were planning on taking Kharg Island I'd be watching for the 82nd Airborne to be moved into theatre rather than another ARG, but to be honest I don't see the point of dropping a bunch of troops 35km off the mainland where they can be targeted by drones when they can halt any Iranian oil operations there through aerial interdiction.

As far as the Marines go, I'm not even sure what target on the Iranian mainland would make a significant military difference in this war without putting their ships and troops at unnecessary risk.

Posturing, most likely...
Indeed. Noteworthy that this comes a short time after the U.K. said Diego Garcia could be used offensively.

The unstated part is- take that distance, draw a circle around Iran. All of those bases at a minimum are now in range. Anywhere the U.S. is launching or supporting attacks from is fair game. If there are gaps in anti-ballistic missile coverage, we may soon see that. The attempt on Diego Garcia has to have a few buttholes puckered.

Meanwhile leaving the Khomeinist regime in place, stronger than it was before.

There's no way the people will be able to oust them anytime soon.
No they won’t be able to overthrow them, and the regime has a much bigger list of people to slaughter. I’m so disgusted with all of this.

Precision missiles, or launch-and-hope-it-hits-something-in-the-area? HE warhead, or nuclear or chemical?

If there's no precision, and it's basically a large package of explosives, it's not much more than WW II V1/V2. Lips aren't going to start quivering for that.
