Iran Super Thread- Merged

More updates. And it is Tuesday.

Pakistan PM seeks deadline extension

15:45 EDT

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif requested Trump make a two-week extension to the Tuesday deadline.

In a post on X, he said diplomatic efforts are "progressing steadily, strongly and powerfully."

Trump is aware of Pakistan's proposal and a response will come, White House says

15:56 EDT

Earlier, we reported that Pakistan has asked Trump to make a two-week extension to the Tuesday deadline.

Now, we're hearing from the White House.

Press secretary Karoline Leavitt told me that "the President has been made aware of the proposal, and a response will come.”

Iran positively reviewing ceasefire request, source says

16:04 EDT

A senior Iranian official told me that Iran is positively reviewing Pakistan’s request for a two-week ceasefire.

It could be the same result as with Greenland. Trump meets quickly with Rutte and Rutte announces an framework of an agreement on Greenland and then the world quietly pivots to something else. Greenland and its take over by the US fades away.

Pakistan works out this '2 week ceasefire' and Iran opens the Straits. After about 3 days, the US quietly starts to rotate assets out of theatre bit by bit. Media starts to focus on the next dumpster fire (I hear 'Blame Canada' and 'rip up CUSMA' building slowly up) and viola, all of this will fade into the background of nothingness.

The question is will Israel also follow the ceasefire? Because otherwise this is going to immediately fall apart the second they strike something in Iran, Iran fires back and the US will be involved again.

Unless the American's are prepared to let Israel continue fighting alone, and I don't see that happening.

In the event that we are heading for a nuclear holocaust this evening, I would like to bring up Trump and the Easter Bunny. Specifically who is the governing authority that should be complaining about the use of the Easter Bunny?

Yeah, I mean, I remember when even the RCMP had a brand guardian ;)

RCMP licenses Mountie image to Walt Disney Co.

This is what we get for allowing this regime to run rampant for 47 years.

Glad the US was willing and capable of slapping them backwards.

Every country that has suffered at the hands of this terrorist regime should be contributing something.

Iran is emboldened by the resistance to assist the USA/Israel on this.

Iran is just a specific example.

People not directly affected by a problem often enough will ignore it because they aren't affected. Gated communities vs low-income neighbourhoods.

We want to have rules to regulate conflict between countries in order to mitigate some of the damage. Countries in conflicts are expected to follow those rules. This applies even if whomever they're fighting is outlaw (doesn't follow the rules).

If a country in a conflict cannot, within the limits of the rules, convince an outlaw country to stop and the outlaw just does whatever it pleases to stir up trouble...what then? One solution is set rules aside, one by one, until a level of escalation is reached at which the outlaw submits. Another solution is to apply enough punishment to persuade the outlaw to move on to another target.

If countries want rules, more of them will have to chip in to enforce them.

It's one thing to leave, say, Israel to deal with its problems, and another to express various forms of satisfaction with the status quo. That has to stop.

By the resistance to not commiting war crimes against civilians with no real plan to actually overthrow the regime and likely strengthening internal support by the hardliners?

Sure, the Iranian leaders, republican guards and some others are garbage human beings, but letting the dumbest kids in the room have the conch on this one isn't actually working out.

If anything actually emboldens everyone else to take the N.Korea route and go nuclear ASAP.

Why? I doubt anyone actually thinks most of these leaders run their own Twitter.

Addressed in the tweet, why would the PM's own staff in Pakistan be referring to him as "Pakistan's PM" internally?

At worse, they've copy and pasted something the US has sent them.

It could also be that they maybe used something like ChatGPT to formulate that tweet.

It's just incredibly strange, and not really something the current situation needs. It may make Iranian leadership skeptical of the whole thing if they start to think they aren't actually talking with Pakistan.

Basically the real life version of this:

You going to be cheering if the day ever comes when Russia gets its face slapped hard?

"A whole civilization will die tonight" kind of sounds a bit like Putin style nuclear sabre rattling?

Is this just another attempt by Trump to flood the news space, or will something happen?

Tune in at 8pm ET I guess....

Not me. There's a game on and it may get the Habs tied up for first.

I have my priorities right!

I've seen similar from our PAOs when they are drafting media lines for a few people, I wouldn't think too hard about it. Especially if you have a team of lowly paid interns doing a lot of different official twitter accounts getting things sent down from the lofty heights of the Staff to the Big Giant Heads.

personally I would love to see what soothing verbiage our PAO’s could conjure up in the last few hours prior to a deadline set by Canada (Great Power Edition) before we make good on a threat to wipe out a distant civilization.

Yeah, him making a threat that sounds like he's going to actually nuke their country probably shorted out a few wires.

I'm not really sure how else you can interpret 'end their civilization'; even carpet bombing German factories and downs, or dropping two nukes in Japan did that.

Hopefully guy with the football goes on a walkabout 'looking' for POTUS.

Holy crap! Two week ceasefire announced. Little detail on the terms or how comprehensive it is, but it’s a start. It does appear conditional on the Strait reopening.
