Iran Super Thread- Merged

More info on the sudden pause of Project Freedom

Saudi Arabia denied the US use of it's airspace and bases for the operation.

They are quite literally just throwing things at a wall.

That's it! A 15% tariff on Saudi oil. 'We don't need them anyway. We don't need anybody'.

While Trump pissed into his own cornflakes, so are the Saudi's, if the Iranian Regime is allowed to dictate the terms, they will put the screws to everyone again and again.

do the "Ginsu" Hellfires count as swords?
Ill Allow It GIF

Not sure. What is the cause of food shortages?
Chickens and the Eggs got eaten yesterday...

Generally I accept that a reasonable outcome has occurred when neither side get everything of what they want. However in this debacle, other than some short sighted scammers grabbing a quick profit, the world as a whole is losing.

I think at this point, it would be better for everyone in the world (well outside the Iranian Leadership) if the world decided to opt for some short term pain, and simply get rid of the Iranian Regime once and for all.

Agreed.

The collective "West" should pinch their noses, show some "leadership" that they claim over the developing world, and finish the job America started.

Anything sort of crushing Iran's ability to terrorize the Gulf, and the broader world, will be a loss for everyone. Regardless of the fact that Orange Man Bad.

Don't lump the world into this. The world was not consulted. The world would get no say in a occupation of Iran.

Israel and the USA broke it, they can fix it. If they want to get rid of the Iranian regime, march on Tehran. Good luck with that.

The world's appeasement brought us to this point.

The Iranian government has been prone to fits of threatening to destroy Israel, isn't religiously tolerant at all, and seems to have a particular problem with the existence of Jews.

Settle the war short of Iranian capitulation, and then what happens? I expect to arrive at a point in the future where people tell themselves the "if only we could go back in time..." story. The counter point is "maybe the horse will learn to sing" and nothing really bad ever happens.

Is the war going badly enough that the wacky notion of an invasion and occupation of Iran is starting to look like an attractive option to some? Because it’s still an absolutely terrible idea to try that.

Not necessary. If the US wants capitulation, it just needs to stay on the path of breaking things from the air. The "military advantage" sought is capitulation. Either the government can capitulate, or perhaps it will be replaced by one that will.

It isn't really Iran that decides whether Iran "wins" or at least doesn't "lose"; it's the US and in particular the US's willingness to show restraint.

Thankfully even Trump and Bibi seem to have enough sense to realize this would make Iraq look like a walk in the park.

Unfortunately for those two, they are finding out the limits of air power.

Air power has never lead to regime change. It can change who is running the regime sure, but no air campaign has lead to a regime changing.

They are using the wrong tool to try to achieve their strategic goal and now are stuck in a quagmire they cannot find their way out of.

You know what QV?

I'll give you that. Sure. The world failed to properly deal with Iran.

But you know what QV?

Launching the most hairbrained, short sighted, strategically moronic campaign seen since the Russian invasion of Ukraine was not the solution.

And asking the world to double down on failure is not going to happen.

Bibi and Trump own this, they need to fix it.

If only nations such as the USA, who are clearly lacking in sophisticated brain power, had someone like Altair walking the halls of the Pentagon to provide all the military and geopolitical strategy. How has this not yet happened?

Regime change isn't necessarily the aim.

Air power can certainly help to close the gap on capitulation, and it's no longer necessary to carpet bomb to knock things out.
They wanted to prevent iran from getting a nuclear weapon. But the only way to do that is regime change.

As long as the iranian regime is in place, they will be going for the bomb. So unless the plan is to repeat this fun little exercise in futility every other year, they will need to implement regime change to achieve their overarching goal.

Because trump fired everyone who would tell him this was a dumb idea.

Trump shrinks National Security Council in major foreign policy shakeup

President Trump has ordered massive cuts to the White House National Security Council, sending dozens of policy experts packing on Friday, one of the officials who was let go told NPR.

And thus ended the era of appeasement.
As long as you agree that we have moved on from the age of appeasement to the age of throwing shit at a wail and praying it works only to give up the next day due to blinding incompetence.

Yay.
