An Apache went down in the Strait, both crew rescued safely.

Unclear what caused it to go down.

Iran war live: Tehran says US seeking no ceasefire or dialogue

  • Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s parliamentary speaker and chief negotiator, says the US is “neither seeking a ceasefire nor seeking dialogue” and Tehran should respond “decisively to defend the rights of the Iranian people”.
  • Iran’s armed forces announce the end of military operations against Israel but warn of “a more crushing” response if it resumes strikes on Lebanon or its territory.

The Iranian negotiating stance is really quite simple, it consists of " give us everything we want including a bunch of stuff we thought of since last night and we'll think about a ceasefire.
The American position is equally simple it's whatever the President came up with for his 05:30 social media rant...
Anybody want some more popcorn ? I think we may be here awhile.

I've always understood 'final throes' to refer to something that is imminently and agonizingly dying... Not sure it's the descriptor I'd use.

I still see no real indication that any resilient peace deal is any closer than it has been this whole time.

large erroneous calculations. This is something one does when they think they are the biggest baddest person on the block. They make bold moves without thinking things through., then blame others for the mistake.
One can be the biggest and baddest on the block and still make errors that cost...
I would not paint America through the years with the Trump 47 brush though.

I think people in charge were pompous enough to choose and ignore that Iran was a large threat. That had large stock piles of new and old tech.
Agreed, the fact that no real theatre protection assets where moved into the area prior to hostilities is telling.
Given that the H Hour was a known item to the Admin ,sending a slew of C-17’s and C5M’s loaded with AD assets would have made a massive difference.
Their allies had directly supported them.
I take issue with that -- who exactly is supporting them. Russia? China?
Both are simply getting what they can with minimal exposure to themselves -- rest assured neither will lift a finger to assist Iran in any meaningful way - as at the end of the day, the have no love for the Iranian regime, and their only interest is not wanting Iran to come under the American influence again. They however have zero interest in Iran being the regional powerhouse either -- as they know the Iranians view them as enemies at the end of the day.
I have many friends who have worked in Iran for the past twenty or more years. Their impression has been very positive over their level of technology along with resourcefulness. Iran should never had been underestimated for their Military ability for lower cost solutions. They have been exporting Arms since the early 2000s all while under embargos.
Iran is an exporter of terror - the only reason they export arms is to enable enemies of the west.
They made the best of things. Cut their deals with who they needed to in order to get things done. Many in the Western sphere had known direct and indirectly of these happenings with a few involved to their own successes.
Look to Europe there.
The US is not innocent in these dealings. With cheap banned oil mixed with with legitimate oil being refined on the US East Coast then shipped to Europe.
That is a pretty bold claim - considering the sanctions taken by the USG on Iran.
Hopefully the adults will sit down soon and figure this one out before it gets worse.
Where do you see adults anywhere in this at all.

I see a lot of unscrupulous folks benefiting from oil futures, and I don’t see anyone coming up with solutions.

And 47 years worth of war games and studies gathering dust on shelves in the Pentagon warning that Iran would shut off the Strait of Hormuz in the event of hostilities…
And the Houthi have now claimed they will target any "Israeli vessel in the BAM as well, which is how that conflict started last time.

And then what does the world do then.

I would suggest that if the Houthi go kinetic again, with the Iranians still interdicting the SoH, then the majority of the world is going to say F it - and go scorched earth on the Houthi and Iranians -- as then they really don’t have a lot of chips to play - and the pain of crushing them will be a global endeavor.

One may wonder if this isn’t what Trump wants --

Is it possible that there was a grand strategy in behind all of this afterall?

No....that's too much to hope for...?

The Yemen government hold Aden, the area sees a lot of food insecurity, push food into Aden, have the US blockade the Houthi port and let nothing in or out. Tell KSA and UAE to put aside their squabbles and games within Yemen and work together again. There are only so many places along the coast that the Houthi's can operate out of for their marine drones.

Yemen/Aden makes the rest of the Middle East look like a boring country village ;)
