I am a second year history major at the University Of Alberta. I am writing a research paper on weaponry currently being used in the Iraq war. I am confident in my knowledge of the weapons (M16A2, M4, M240B, AK47/74, etc), however I need some decent sources. Currently all mine are off of the US Army and Marines Website fact sheets. Could anybody reccommend good books or articles referring to the Weaponry being used in the Iraq war? Preferably not personal experiences, as it is frowned upon to write "so and so on the internet says this" in your bibliography. Unfortunate, but such is the nature of academic life.

Four Niner Zero,

I think that it is going to be very hard to find a reference that is not internet sourced.  The reason for this is that the war in Iraq is a fairly recent development in history, all things considered.

Being in second year university myself, I know how much internet sources are frowned upon by professors.  The reason for this is that they can be written by anybody and they are not a credible source.  On top of this, they are neither edited, reviewed or refereed.

The only thing I can suggest is to look for articles from Scholarly Journals.  Your best bet is searching online for these through a host such as ebsco.net (I think thats it, however all these databases can be accessed from your schools library webpage).  As you know, scholarly journals are a  great source of CURRENT information, and are HIGHLY credited by professors.

If all else fails, you could probably find some sources in the library regarding weapons used during Desert Storm.  I'm not 100% sure, but I'm assuming the weaponry used by Iraqis would be roughly the same.

Good Luck! Hope this Helps!
