i‧ron‧ic  /aɪˈrɒnɪk/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ahy-ron-ik] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective
1. containing or exemplifying irony: an ironic novel; an ironic remark.
2. ironical.
3. coincidental; unexpected: It was ironic that I was seated next to my ex-husband at the dinner.

City Tv was at the support the troops rally today.  And while announcer says

"and its ironic that these people are here today as a Canadian soldier lost his life"

Ironic?  No.  Ironic is something unexpected or co-incidental. There is nothing ironic about a soldier
being killed in a war zone while people are trying to show support.  It is in fact because the soldiers
are facing severe danger and possibly death that these people showed up.  There is no irony here.

Oh wait.. there is.

Its IRONIC that City Tv, a news agency, seems to unable to deliever news properly.  That's Ironic!

(or sad.. or both!)

sigh... and i used to like city tv news.......  :P

dolts......

they should try looking up the definition of irony... along with journalistic integrity.... then again... most media outlets could stand to be reminded about that word......

What grabs me is how Global News can't even get rank abbreviations correct - they use the US-style Pvt. for Pte.,
Corp. for Cpl. They've even used St-Sgt to indicate Staff Sergeant, a rank which hasn't existed in the CF for a very long time.
I've also seen Bombardiers called 'Bombadier'.

When are these clowns going to get a proper copy of the CP Style Guide and advice from NDHQ on CF rank structure? Sheesh.  :o

Don't worry about city TV there reporters .  The will do anything for story their like dogs fighting over a bone for dinner .  The main thing is  that people our coming out to support the troops .Even my work place Stream is having a wear a Red Clothes day  starting next week to show support for the troops . It's nice to see people supporting those who are protecting us  here and over seas .

I know the pain all too well.

I've been staying with my parents for a while before heading overseas (history teacher, not soldier - but considering it).  My mom is a daily A-Channel (city underling) watcher and I can't stand to watch their 'journalism' ... though sometimes when I'm caught sitting there, I do like to point out errors in grammar or other incidences which DON'T make them my trusted news source.
