I live just outside of Toronto and I'm enlisting with the Ontario Regiment with a school program.

I'm hoping to have Army as a career. Anywho, I am currently still doing the enrolement paperwork and the whole shibang. I've done most of the paperwork and I passed the physical, still got to do the medical.

On tuesday I had to go in for my interview with the Cpt there, said I was acceptable and that and then he was talking to me about the courses I'll have to take and what not. He mentioned about the BMQ and the 50 push-ups that I need to do. The problem is, I'm only 16 and can maybe get to 25 and then it gets hard. I'm slowly starting to work out by running and doing more push-ups a day. What I want to know is, is it challenging to do the BMQ and the push-ups. And also, what way is best to prepare my self for it.

Thanks,

Mitch

First, do a search. This topic has been talked about extensively, time and again.

Anyways, you do not have to do 50 pushups right off the bat. The minimum enrolment standard is 19 pushups (if you are male), which you obviously have to be able to do to be enrolled into the forces. During BMQ, the instructors and course staff will work you and slowly build you up to the standard that they feel you should be at. No one will expect you to do 50 pushups right off the bat - it will be slowly worked into you. If you can do 25 proper pushups as you say, you are quite fine.

The BMQ itself is a challenging, yet very rewarding experience. My opinion, a summer BMQ is much more fulfilling and much better of an experience than a weekend BMQ run during the fall/winter. A summer BMQ gives you a much better soldiering experience and builds much stronger camaraderie with your fellow troops. BMQ is challenging but you will find that you will have a great time, something you will remember for the rest of your life. Don't get too worked up over it, take it as it comes, do as you're told, and you will be fine.

Now read the FAQ's page - you will find answers to all of your questions there.

Alright, thanks.

Sorry about not reading, didn't bother to look.

Again, thanks

Mitch
