Is it possible to ask for an extension on a current tour? (If your crazy enough)

No longer.
It was possible in the 92-94 time frame of UNPROFOR
Now you need a min of 1year back - unless you have a waiver (which are increasingly hard to come by - Col Grant the 1CMBG commander has stated he will not issue them or allowed them issued in 1 CMBG)

Depending what you are doing overseas, your Unit CO may make the request on your behalf. Generally speaking Kevin is right. However, 2 people I worked with overseas were extended for 60 days.......Roto 14........
It IS possible, but unlikely. All requests for extensions or waivers from the one year waiting period cross the desk of, and must be signed off personally by DCDS and it's a case by case basis.

To answer the tiltle of the thread: Absolutely, ask away to your heart's content, or until they threaten to charge you for being a pest.
Will you get that extention? Not likely, but you'll never know unless you ask. However, given the answer, you can change parameters and ask again.
