Israel successfully tests anti-rocket system

JERUSALEM – Israel's Defense Ministry says it has successfully tested a high-tech system designed to intercept incoming rockets.

A ministry statement says the Iron Dome system successfully dealt with incoming rockets of the types fired by Palestinian and Lebanese militants in tests this week, terming the test a "milestone."

The statement stopped short of saying the system shot rockets down with an interceptor missile. Defense officials said Friday the system will likely be ready by the 2010 target date for deployment.

The system fires missiles that home in on incoming short and medium-range rockets of the type used by militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah.

Israel is spending more than $200 million on the system.

JERUSALEM - Israel will deploy its "Iron Dome" multi-million-dollar missile defense system in southern Israel for the first time next week in the wake of rocket attacks from Gaza, officials said March 25.

"I authorized the army to deploy in the next few days the first battery of 'Iron Dome' for an operational trial," Defence Minister Ehud Barak said as he toured the tense Gaza Strip border.

Israeli Firm Adapts Iron Dome for Intercepts at Sea
Rafael floats ship-based concept at Euronaval Exhibition
Oct. 27, 2014 - 07:13AM  |  By BARBARA OPALL-ROME

TEL AVIV — Rafael Ltd. is developing ship-based versions of Iron Dome, the system credited with intercepting nearly 90 percent of the thousands of Gaza-launched rockets designated as direct threats to the Israeli home front in last summer’s 50-day war.

The state-owned developer and prime contractor for Israel’s Iron Dome will unveil its maritime point defense concept at the annual Euronaval exhibition in Paris that starts Monday and runs through Nov. 1.

Dubbed C-Dome, Rafael said the system aims to defend offshore patrol vessels (OPVs), small Corvettes and other small ships against saturation attacks from a range of “current and future high performance threats.”
