Hi, Im going to be applying to the forces soon (infantry reg force) I only have grade 11 and some grade 12 credits but I'm going to be going to continuing Ed to finish up highschool. My question is right now how competitive is the infantry trade to someone with my level of education? Also if I'm in school during the recruiting process will this make a difference? I'm only 18 so I'm not in a big rush & want to do everything possible to be a competitive applicant. Any info will be helpful thanks guys

Good day Michaelp11,

Being enrolled in school or working a full time job does not affect the processing of an application to join the CAF. Depending on the occupation or entry plan if selected a conditional offer of acceptance might be given based on the completion of the education currently enrolled (Example: Applying DEO Officer in final year of degree) If the education is at the college or university level and is related to the occupation that your applying for and your not in your final year then a subsidized education entry plan may pay for the remaining education if sucessful. However that being said once an application is processed and you are successful in receiving an offer you may have to make a decision on wither to accept this offer and join the CAF or reject the offer to finish your schooling.

Your other questions on competitiveness of applications are not relevant to this form and will not be answered in accordance with the "Read First Post" which is at the top of this form stating the rules to be followed when asking questions.

More information about joining the CAF can be found on our recruiting website:

If you do not finish high school prior to joining it you will regret it in the future. The standard advice given on this site, by many, many people, is "stay in school until you have a diploma".
