Hi all,

I know that I'm new to the boards, is there an introductory page that someone might be able to point me in the direction of?

Anyway, I'm a British citizen living in New Brunswick, Canada. I have been residing in this wonderful country of yours now for seven years. During those seven years, I've applied for Citizenship or at least a PR card (I don't really know, as my father handles the immigration side of things), and my current status is a 'Landed Immigrant'.

I've just graduated from high school, (June, Class of 2012 WOOT!) Anyway, after taking 6 months to think about what I want to do - the idea of the military, particularly ROTP appeals to me. I've always had an interest in the military, and have been 'on the fence' about joining up for the last year.

But, no time like the present, so, I've decided to make a start at the whole process in the New Year.

My worries, however, are firstly, as to whether the Forces might be able to help with my immigration process. Trouble is, we've moved a couple of times (just up the street), but we think that my papers may have got lost in the post.

Secondly, I have a heart condition - specifically, a bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), I was born at 24 weeks and weighed 1 pound, 13 ounces, so that's how that all came about. Regardless, my BAV has never bothered me in my entire life and I have always maintained a good level of fitness. Competing in Track and Field, and completing various cardio workouts with no problems.

If anyone can provide answers to the above concerns, then that would be greatly appreciated.

I look forward to meeting you all and enjoying the forums!

Cheers,

Hawky. :)

For applying you should be  Canadian Citizen first of all . Canadian Forces can not help you with citizenship.
You should wait till you get citizenship.
About your health condition I think it will be better to visit your local CFRC (Canadian Forces Recruiting Center)
and talk to  staff who is in charge for medical exam.

Cheers for the reply. I'll be chasing up my citizenship in the New Year.

Thanks again for the speedy reply! :D

You are welcome.
Also some tips:
1.Use search here and you can find more information.
2. Check www.forces.ca
3. Visit ASAP your local CFRC

Similar situation in regards to waiting on citizenship status.  I'm a resident of Quebec, having recently moved here from the U.S., but still about a year away from being eligible for citizenship, not to mention a year away from being out of the U.S. Army National Guard (crossing the border regularly for training).  Even though it will therefore be at least a year before I can join the CF, I've already been talking to a recruiter.  They'll gladly tell you everything you need to know so you can be prepared when the time comes.  They can discuss your previous work experience (not sure if you've done any volunteer work or anything), discuss your education goals, and help you decide which direction to head in since there are many things you can do to prepare before even submitting an application.
