Just got the new small pack and associated pockets

How are people setting these additional pockets up?  The instruction manual isn't very helpful.
Also got the new shades, snowshoes, and SOG.

I keep the smaller pockets on the sides.  Put a 7.5 L on the back once, but did not like all the loose strap ends  (I don't follow why the fasteners are adjustable length when they are designed to line up with where the daisychains are on the pack).

I have to go to Edm. on some army business in a week or 2......If I stop by stores while I am there, can you guys see any reason I won't be able to exchange a bunch of kit and maybe pick up the new small pack etc?

Clip the male ends of the 7L straps onto the female ends of the compression straps on the sides of the pack itself. This allows you to compress the entire pack, including the add on 7L, with fewer straps. You can also clip the female ends of the 7l and the male ends of the pack together to keep them out of the way.

Not Seen, explain more detail. I tossed the book, is the 7 l bag the zippered one?

This is the way I did it. I don't know if its right, but it allows you to use the straps to compress the zippered 7L pouch   and the main bag together. This is because the side release buckles on the pouch clip right into the bag. Maybe my pictures will help...

Well, when people say "compression sack" I usually think of a valise-type deal - which the small pack isnt. When I refer to compression straps, I'm talking about the straps on the side that make the pack smaller if you have less stuff in it. As for the fig 5 quad strap thing, I have no idea.

Keep in mind, I didn't invent this thing and I can't give any official answers. This is just stuff I've figured out after working with the pack for a few weeks.

you have to be issued from your own ASU unless your at another on business.

So which 7.5 L bag is which?

That, my friend, is the female side of a side-release buckle.  Ah, you say, I knew THAT, but why is it broken on the other end.

Because that is where you can attach it to the 'daisy-chain' part of the pack.  There is a good picture of that in the Kifaru catalogue, as well as shown in action here:

First off, I'll correct myself: whenever I said "7L pouch" I was referring to the "7.5L Pouch".

Reference your question, I'm stumped. I don't think either 7.5L pouch looks waterproof or like a compression sack. If I had to guess, I'd say the "sleeping bag protective bag" and "waterproof compression sack" have not been issued yet. I have the 2 large pockets on the bottom sides, I have the one large pocket with the single belt strap on the back. I use the second pocket witht he 2 belt strapps as a fanny pack for my tools. It work good. I also use it on my TV for odds and ends like rain suit, socks, and extras.

I agree that the 2 extra straps are for attaching your sleeping bag, however it seems implied that your sleeping bag will fit into one of those pouches and then onto the bottom of the small pack (unless its a totally different bag issued with your ruck). 

I will also be using one of the 7.5 l bags as a butt pack of sorts however I'm still confused as to what the quad strapping is good for. 

I also still need to figure out those other buckles.

No your not suppose to put your sleeping bad in one of those bags. There is a stuff sack coming out that your sleeping bag in. And in reality you wont be putting your sleeping system on the small pack at all. that will go on the new ruck sack system when it arrives. The other buckle are for added kit. I know that there are differnt bags acvailable. like top loading bags, and theres a field medic bag that will hold stuff like atropene needles and general first aid stuff. Iv seen many differnt setups here in Pet. And would imagine that there are more out there.

Or you can do as I did - toss the "small" pack in your basement and use the actually worthwhile pockets on your Kifaru  ;D

My only bitch about the pack is that it is too large for a small pack - and yet too small for a multiday pack.

I do like the kidney belt.   Like many others all I had for a pack was the NBC bag so this is a welcome addition.

We're not all "Daddy Big Banks". hehehe ;D
