Hi everyone.  Just want to say this site has been incredibly helpful through the recruiting process.  Lot's of valuable information and tips.  So the good news is...I'M IN!  After numerous trips to Kingston for testing and paperwork, and quite a few sleepless nights, I get sworn in July 31st in Kingston.  I head to BMQ in St. Jean Aug 19th - Nov 23rd for LCIS tech.  Anyone else out there heading to that particular BMQ pls contact me.

As excited as I am...here's my dilemma.  My wife is expecting our first child together due to be delivered Sept 26th.  She's had some complications, so the delivery looks like it will be induced at an earlier time.  I realize that the first 4 weekends of BMQ I cannot leave, but if she goes into labour is there any chance at all that I can be there w/o potentially harming all the hard work I've put into the training.  My wife is tough, perfectly suited to military life and she has repeatedly said she does not need me there if I can't get out and does not want to call me if it will look bad to the trainers, but honestly...I just want to be able to hold my daughter ASAP.  This opportunity for me is a dream come true, and as cold hearted as it sounds I don't want to do anything to jeopardize it.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.  If it comes down to being told there is just no way of being there then I can guarantee I will be looking forward to our first free weekend from BMQ cause I know where I'll be!   ;D

A buddy that was on my sister platoon in basic had a baby when he was home one weekend. Lucky for him the kid was born on the weekend when he was there, and he was back by Sunday night. Everyone's different so you'll find your way to deal with it. Talk to your staff once you're there, they'll give you your options. You'll have an interview where you can discuss matters like these with them.
