Is there anyway I can get temporary  Class B work anywhere near Toronto or Borden?

Anything for a Trooper.

I see other people finding so easily and my chain of command is pretty lazy.

Given the fiscal restraints happening and many existing Cl B losing their employment, I'd say your chances are pretty slim.

Check with you Ops Cell. There is normally some sort of short term call out for role players, drivers, etc in support of courses. They are normally of sufficient length to garner Cl B status for the duration. You could float from one to the next.

The story we got last week was due to the financial situation in Ontario that approximately 100-150 "short term" Cl B positions will have to be eliminated this year. No mention was made to eliminating long term Cl B positions.

There are long term\long established\ancient position\whatever you want to call them, Cl B jobs being slashed in 31 BG, and not just lower ranks either. Can't speak for anywhere else.

"Long Established" doesn't mean "established permanently".  I have certain familiarity with the Army's Reserve Establishments; the number of pers employed above and beyond the authorised number of full-timers was/is significant; it was always interesting to see how incremental pers would be employed on "good ideas" while core responsibilities would be ignored (or extra $$$ would be requested to fill those core functions).

I suspect more than a few sacred cows may be tossed on the BBQ in the near term... not always a bad thing, but usually a painful process as some important things may also disappear (and some leaders may overstep and do bad things).

The "not just lower ranks" actually surprises me, being as cynical as I am. Here in Kingston we were told that few, if any positions, would be lost. Which normally would make me think we're about to lose quite a few of them!

Must have been at the same townhall I was at. I think Kingston is staying off the chopping block for the most part as a lot of the Cl B positions I've seen are filling spots where there are no RegF pers to cover off. That being said, I'm sure the LFCA Comd will hack away some positions if they even look like they weren't created in good faith.

I wonder how the reserve class B will look like when we finish up in Afghanistan?I see a lot of class B in Gagetown being cut.there was a time that as a trooper Cpl you were sent each summer to Gagetown to drive/GD/En force. It seems to be filled with class B positions now.

Dark days ahead I guess.

Not sure what the other schools are like but I got my choice of Class B here ranging from 1-3 yrs.......

Was it like that prior to Afghanistan?

Remember: 30 days and you can be gone - on either side of the equation.

Things are going to get much tighter before they get looser.  The Army has had significant temporary influxes of Reserve pay to provide for augmentation during current operations.  Current operations cease = the funding ceases.

Joseph called on the Pharaoh to save during the fat years to be ready for the lean years.

Unfortunately, the Army gorged in the fat years and will find the coming famine very challenging.  And still has not learned how to prioritize for the coming lean times.

(To be fair, that's not just an Army issue...)

OK, if I were cynical....I'd ask how many general officers there are in Kingston, thus providing the weight to protect such critical empires.

Oh, go on -- you should have seen it before several lodgers and sub-units were downsized to Colonels!

Off the top of my head I know there is 2 or 3 here but not really in any command type role.

There are four (down from six).

And you're saying these Generals have no pull, not really being in any "command type role" or anything. It's simply that Kingston is just miraculously immune to cuts effecting the whole rest of the army?

Do you also believe that the Thanksgiving Bunny will be dropping off jaegermeister to the good boys and girls this weekend?

Okay, here was my original post,

Now where did I say we were immune?

LFCA Comd was the one who said that Kingston was his "last option" for axing positions, again no mention of being immune. ::)

As for your last comment, I will file it as the garbage it is and place you on ignore.

And I mentioned only:
a) the overlap between the number of general officers in location, and
b) the lack of Cl B cuts being considered for Kingston, implying
c) empire protection by said general officers.

Sorry if I stepped on your crying towel.

I believe that the large majority of the Class B positions in Kingston do not fall under LFCA. Thus, what is briefed to a unit in Windsor or Toronto (or a Reserve Unit in Kingston) may not apply to the majority of the Class B positions in Kingston.
