LTA for visiting outside North America

Good afternoon,

I was wondering if any RMS clerks can answer these questions for me.

My next of kin lives in South Korea and I am posted to CFB Borden. Will the CF cover the plane ticket to South Korea to visit my next of kin and if so, how much would they cover?

Do I have to pay for the ticket and I get reimbursed or does the CF buy it for me?

I'm sorry if this topic was posted before but I could not find any info on LTA for outside of North America.

Thanks.

For reference, perhaps "LTA for visiting outside North America" will be merged with "All about LTA ( merged )."

"How would I go about getting LTA to go to Korea if this is allowed."

Edit acronym.

Dan99,

You asked this morning about LTA and it was merged with the LTA thread. Have you read the six pages before (re)posting further questions?

I didn't want to answer because I'm not an RMS Clerk, but the references you are looking for are Compensation and Benefits Instruction 209.50 and the mileage rate for Ontario.

Based on the current math, you can claim a LTA maximum of $2356.56 if your primary next of kin is outside Canada/US. By the way, don't even think about Business Class -- it's strictly forbidden!

My question would be for LTA within Canada, but is it safe to assume that even if the business class is bellow the LTA maximum (based on formula) for the distance, it is forbidden/will be denied? (one way only, return would be economy)

That's correct, the FAQ on DWAN for LTA is pretty clear that business class cannot be claimed as an LTA expense, and similarly we were also briefed "no business class" when we were arranging our flights for HLTA from deployed operations.
