I called the recruitment office and they told me my medical file went through without a problem, they are just waiting for the head physician to sign my paperwork. (The guy who has to sign EVERYONE'S papers). After that I just have to wait for my call.

I selected three hot jobs. Avionics Systems Tech, Ammunition Tech and Naval Electronics Tech (Radar). In that order. Does it matter what order they are in? Whenever I ask the recruitment office, I got a bunch of different answers.

One guy told me it didn't matter at all what I put in there, the spaces were basically useless, they will offer me whatever they want to regardless of what I put there.
Another told me they will offer you your first choice if it is available.
Another one told me they offer you whichever one has the most spots the need to be filled.
Another told me you get into whichever one you qualify the most for and they have a hard time finding people for not matter the amount of spots needed. (For example they need over 100 Avionics Systems Techs, about 32 Naval Electronics Techs and only 18 Ammo Techs, but they'll offer Ammo Tech because its hard finding people willing to do that job).

So in short, it seems no one I talked to in Ottawa really knows how the process actually works. So do any of you actually know how it works, for curiosity sake?

Every time I think about my job choices, I get really excited about a specific job and then have my heart set on that job, the next time I will think about it, its one of the other ones. Each one has something about them that really excites me. Thing is, the only one I have a full scope of what is expected is Ammo Tech, because thats what my dad does.

I'm thinking of calling them up and removing two of my choices because I don't know the full scope of the other two jobs. But I don't want to jump the gun on that yet. So it leads me to my next question.

Are there any Avionics Systems Techs or Naval Electronics Techs? What are the parts of your job that aren't advertised? What are the bad parts, good parts? Things to look out for?

...I think what you should really be asking yourself is ----Do I want to be in the
Army
Airforce or
Navy?????
  Then pick the corresponding trade.

I just called them up. They set it up as a plan A plan B system for me, so that if there are Ammo Tech positions, I will get in. If non are available, I will be up for the other two.

Just make sure that you're prepared to be a sailor, and all that that entails before you put down a navy trade on your app.  I've seen it happen so many times people join without doing the proper research first and are miserable.

I used to live in Halifax, got a full tour of the ships there, saw the living quarters. I even have my sea legs from fishing.

I chose ammo tech because I know more about that job than the others. There are things in every job that isn't advertised. So I have it set up so instead of having a 33-33-33 chance with each job, I have it 60-20-20

Sorry I gotta disagree with this, I think you should ask yourself "what job do I feel like doing for the next ??? years?"  and then make sure you can adapt and be comfortable in the Element that goes along with it.  I mean anyone can get used to a uniform, living quarters, etc etc.  If you hate your daily career in the CF however, the rest goes without saying.

Well when i done my application i also done the hotjobs list, but since i never finished highschool and have been working since i was 15 i did not think there was going to much if anything that i would qualify for let alone be "suitable" for. I had choice of Artillry,Sig Op, and Ammo Tech. However when i was in my interview, i was told the three choices are there to point us in a general direction as far a MOC is concerned. I was also told that even though i have those three choices, due to attrition i could end up with something not on my list.

So i am now at the point of awaiting my thumbs up on BMQ and going with the flow. If i get placed in another role, then i will do the best i can just as i would in any of the three choices i picked.

Good luck with your choice :)

Current selection policy is that you have three choices not in any order of preference. So what you really have are up to three "first" choices that you may get a job offer for. None are put in front of the other so if you qualify for all three you should get one of them. Let us know which one you get offered.

tovasshi,

I would hope you don't pick ammo tech just because that is the job that you know the most about. If you have more information about one job than the others, then you are not really making an educated decision and this is a decision that can affect you for a long time. Have you talked to your dad about the actual day to day work that an ammo tech does and what you would actually be doing or has he only talked about the highlights of the job. If you are interested in other trades I encourage you to try and contact people in those trades to really find out what they are about. If you still decide to go Ammo Tech, good luck and maybe I will see you at the school sometime.

I'm not picking it just because its the one I know most about. Its the one that sounds like the most fun. Upon other reasons. Yes, he has told me about the day to day work, not just the highlights. Hes taken me to work with him when I was younger before. He made me do paperwork for him :/ hes also told me the really horrible stuff that never gets advertised, but I'm still willing to do it even though I know that stuff.
