???    ???

Does anyone know what the ending "istan" means?

Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhistan, etc

I realize that it is a combination of English letters to represent a sound in another language, but since it ends the name of so many countries in the region, it must have a specific meaning relating to national status.

:salute:

Amazing. After spending about a month going to libraries and surfing net, I get an answer within minutes of posting the question.

Thanks, Will

Has nothing to do with the meaning of istan...but its just too funny...relates to what ToRN posted.

http://virtualcanadian.org/

This is a site for citizens of the United States who no longer wish to be identified with that nation state, or who feel that it has abandoned them, or that it even threatens them.

Many talk about fleeing the United States to Canada, but between the hardships of relocation, and the difficulty of obtaining actual Canadian citizenship, that may not be an option for many. There's also the lingering desire to stay and try to do some good in the States. The solution: become a Virtual Canadian. It's an idealist protest, combined with pragmatic reality.

Call up all your american buddies and tell em, "become a Vitual Canadian, you can then declare your status as a Virtual Canadian" Isnt that exciting!

"Joy - Tempe Arizona / Brittish Columbia
Its too expensive to move back to california and canada has no governors who used to be robots.

Kinda just gives you an inkling of the sort that wants to leave there and come here to be "productive" citizens.  ;)

Id sure like to know what part of Alberta you live in. My Alberta is most certainly Jesusland material. I grew up in a town that had 20000 people and a church on every corner. We dont like abortion, gay marriage, or gun control. We are conservative politically.....beef,oil, and cowboys.....where the hell do you live?

Here is a simpilified version of what "Istan" means

Istan = Land

Afghanistan = land of the afghans

Turkmenistan = land of the turks

for uzbekistan and others...
uzbeskis = Tribe name (back in the day)  Istan += land of that tribe.

mongolian era.

The rest you can figure out.

peace.

Amen NavyGrunt!!  I live in Redneck-middle-of-no-where Alberta and I can honestly say I was shocked when I looked at the fist map and we weren't seperated.  Alberta is deffinetly part of Jesusland.  Bring on the beef!

Actually, I'm kind of pissed off South Western Ontario isn't in Jesusland. I'm filing suit for discrimination. We're religious too!! We're religious about Tim Hortons, we're religious about Toronto Bashing, we're religious about Gym memberships [we each have 3]; we're religious about our concrete beach at UWO on warm days, ... did I mention we're religious aboutTim Hortons?
