Medical Appeal for Drug Abuse Disorder

Hello everyone,

To be straightforward, I recently received a letter stating that I do not meet the common Enrolment Medical Standards due to a hospitalization related to polysubstance use back in 2021. I went through all the required medical assessments, including an evaluation by a psychologist, and was cleared after my one-year wait. When I returned in September 2024, I completed all my medical examinations. I’ve been clean since 2023, living a healthy lifestyle, and maintaining a consistent exercise regimen.

I spoke with the medical staff at my recruiting office and asked if they could assist with my appeal. They advised me to provide any relevant information, as the only documented record of drug use they have is from 2021. I submitted my appeal and shared my story.

My question is: Is there even a slight chance that my appeal could be successful?

If you appealed, there is a chance.
For your appeal to be successful there needs to be substantial evidence (from medical professionals or addictions counselors) that show that your addiction problem is not as problematic as previously thought. Even with this documentation it is possible that the RMO will decide that their is still a concern.
I wish you luck. Even if the appeal is turned down this time, it doesn't mean you couldn't try again in a year or two, depending on whether you still want to join.

I went to a psychologist and got myself assessed and sent that as evidence alongside with recent drug tests.

Does it normally take another year or 2 to try again if it gets turned down? Because I can go to my family doctor or psychologist for another assessment and hand it in soon then later.
