Hi,

I'm currently a 2nd year University student in Ontario and I'm thinking about rejoining the forces. In Grade 12 I enrolled in the forces for a co op program where I completed my BMQ and DP1.1 (I didnt do the summer course). I left the army so that I could pursue post-secondary education. However, recently I've been thinking of dropping out of university and trying to get back into the army as a medical technician (closest to paramedic?). I'm not sure if this is the best choice or not though. I could either transfer to college and receive my paramedic degree and then join the military again, or just go straight back to the military and receive their training. I'd also like to know what my daily life would consist of as Reservist Vs Reg Force. Im leaning more towards reservist right now, however I still want to be able to go on tour. If anyone could give me some insight as to how I would go about becoming a Med Tech or as to what I should do that would be great! Thanks in advance.

If you decide to go to college, these are the "Ontario College Highly Competitive Programs" beginning Aug 1, 2015 to Jul 31, 2016:

"If you’re interested in a highly competitive program, make sure you apply before February 1- the Equal Consideration Date - for your chance to get a spot."

As always, best bet is to contact a CFRC.

Tossing my  :2c: in. If you do choose to go down the PCP -> med tech route, be sure to look if the college offers Canadian Medical Association accreditation because it'll most likely be a military approved college and is needed if you want to join via the NCM Subsidized Education Program. The recruiters will tell you which colleges are CMA anyways, and most will advertise it on their respective website.

If you choose to go to a CMA college(+/- military approved) then apply through direct entry with education, the application process will go a bit smoother vs non-CMA. As someone going down that road right now, I've been told by my recruiter that A) verifying transcripts and matching creditentials with the college is faster and B) may be allowed to skip certain portions of training.

As a final bonus. If you decide NOT to join the military but have graduated from a CMA program, the cost of transfering your college's NOCPs to other provincial governing bodies for verification is waved.. but the cost of registering with the governing body of said province isn't. There are ways to get around that part though, but you'd been to be certified in your province... and only a few provinces still do the whole thing for free.
