Hello,
This is my first time posting on this forum (a friend directed me here). I have sent all preliminary paper-work to CFRC Calgary and am waiting to hear back from them, I hope to begin BMQ as soon as possilbe. If I am accepted. I have no difficulty passes the physical portion of the exam, but my question is this; I am currently perscribed Paroxetine for depression, niether I nor my doctor believe it is a problem any longer and in truth I haven't been taking the medication for over a month now. Will the fact that I have been perscribed this medication and/or been diagnosed with depression in the past, be cause for my application to be denied?

Thanks.

As for that medication, the best advice I can give is wait and see, the medical portion of your CF application will sort itself out. Alot of these things depend on the individual I believe.

Ok, so I did what I should have done before posting. I searched the forums and found some relevant material.

Soldiers with certain medical conditions get more help as well. Recruits with mild asthma now are allowed to carry inhalers with them. Privates who come to the Army with a history of mild depression now can take Paxil or Zoloft. Both changes, pushed through last fall, are "contributing to the lower attrition overall," says Col. Jolissaint, the physician.

Does mean that my taking paxil (paroxetine) is not going to be a great issue?

Thanks.

That's what it looks like its saying to me, that it is acceptable for members to serve while taking paxil.

Like I said, if and when you reach the medical portion of your application process, this will all be made clear and be sorted out. At best, many people on these forums can only give you conjecture and speculation on medical questions, since medicine by nature is a very visual, first person field.

Thank you for both of your helpful responses. I won't worry much more about the recruitment process until contacted. Aside from continuing my PT. ^^

Alright, call this number 974-2920, it's the direct line to CFRC Calgary , and ask to talk to the medical staff. Whatever they say, I can almost guarantee, you will need your doctor or Psychologist to write you a letter saying your good-to-go. Good luck and on the side what is your trade??

That is an article that is written about the US military.  The Canadian Forces have different rules.  If you had truly used the SEARCH function you would have found these posts:

Depression / Anti-depressants  http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/13192.0.html

Is there standard times for ceastation of taking medicine?  Is there standard times for ceastation of taking medicine?

Could any of the medical personnel answer a few questions?  http://forums.army.ca/forums/threads/18197.0.html

I am sure that with these, you will find some idea as to what you will be facing in the ways of CF recruitment.

Your INDIVIDUAL medical fitness for joining the CF can only be determined through the medical portion of the recruiting process and not through this board and the experiences of others.  If you want to join then apply and see where the process takes you.
