"A new study in the Canadian Journal of Human Sexuality finds that men who spend a lot of time on the Internet are much more likely to click on sexually explicit spam, unsolicited email, and pop-ups advertising sex sites.   :o

Psychologists at Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Guelph in Ontario used a sample of 482 Canadian male and female university students, exploring their reactions to sexually explicit Internet material."

What's really hilarious are the comments following the story.  Pretty much what I was thinking as I read this.   ::)

And in other related news, scientists have determined that live humans are more likely to breathe than dead ones.  Although having said that, the biggest porn hound I knew was a woman.   :salute:

Duuhhhhh ::)

If women are not interested in on-line sexual content why are there so many sex-related sites that target women?  And why are there so many women on adult search and dating sites looking to have sex with someone else? It is not the stupidity of the study I find annoying but what I believe to be the complete inaccuracy of the results.  If it was all university students that would definately have skewed the results...

Hmmm, I would expand more, but I think this is slippery territory already regarding 'adult content' on this site.  Oops, there's the phone, gotta go...

muahahaha... I could've told you that  ;D

hey... I wonder how much money they got for doing that research?!  :o

Ah, but they were talking about pornagraphy.  There's a lot of stuff on the internet that is "sexual content" that is not considered pornagraphy, erotica, for example, or medical sites.  As far as personal/dating sites, well, I believe that's different, after all, those women want to have sex, not watch someone else doing it.  >:D

Funny how Maureen & I are watching this thread so carefully ...

Obviously her and I were not test subjects, and are reading up all the info we can.  ;)

While the result is obvious it still needs to be scientifically validated and this study does just that.

Why ?

I came back from deployement a few days ago and there was expired milk in my fridge.  Thats the 4th time i have had food spoil while deployed.  Do we need a study to scientificaly validate that i am forgetful ?

They spent all that cash finding out the obvious when they could have spent it on curing our addiction to click on these links. I mean really, I want something that will help me. There needs to be a Zyban for porn I say.

Next week's study results:

Men more likely to pee standing up than women, study says

Pornography encompasses anything that is sexually explicit, which would include any 'erotica' aka 'soft porn', and yes as you say does not include medical material despite the reactions of some over-reactive parents/special interest groups who mislabel surgical textbooks and sex education as 'porn'.  But I would add that any romance novels with sexually explicit scenes also fall under this category despite the protests of millions of female readers.  As for the personal/ dating sites, we are not talking 'Lovematch' or 'Find Your Sweetheart'.  Many of these sites are sexually orientated and it would be naive to suggest that women sign onto these sites looking for sexual partners for discrete relationships, and/or post naked pictures of themselves, but never read or look at anything pornographic while they are there.

When you state something as a fact you have to either prove it or have a reference to someone else who proved it before. This is especially true if you are submitting papers to a refereed journal. I can bet the objective of this study was more to know the actual distribution more than simply concluding "man more likely to click on porn".

On a personal note, I just do not see why this is making news, I guess sex sells. :)
