Alright, so I've done a search, and I can't seem to find anything on the "super milcots" I've heard tales of from Wainwright... though there are pictures of them in the photo gallery...
If this has been covered already, forgive me and please point me towards the thread, if not...
I've got what I like to think is a reasonable amount of experience on sand, snow/ice and highway (Very little using them in mud or as rock-climbers) and a reasonable amount of complaints, as well as compliments for the trucks. All in all, looking at the pictures, it looks like it's going to be a vastly improved truck.
So here goes my list of questions, based entirely on the pictures I saw from this forum, as well as my ramblings on the upgrades as visible in the picture (Please feel free to debate or correct me, I'm hardly an expert), and some thoughts on the line milcots.
Questions:
1. Is this truck an example of what we can expect in terms of a milcot upgrade? It was my understanding they were going to give us a lift kit, and replace the tires with the same tires as used on the LSVW... now of course, that understanding may be dated, or entirely incorrect, as it came to me second hand. (If the truck in the photographs is a local mod, then please ignore my following questions, and further to that, if anyone has the correct details on the mod, I'm very curious, as I learned to have a little place in my heart for the trucks)
2. Were the fenders trimmed to accomodate the larger tires? Or was the lift kit sufficient to give clearance for the tires in the picture? (I had assumed if they were going to replace the tires with the tires from the LSVW, cutting the fenders would be a requirement)
3. Are the nerf bars going to be standard? (I don't see them as being entirely nessascary, but if you're going to go through the trouble of reinforcing the entire underside with the skid plates, what's a couple of extra bucks for nerf bars?) Are the nerf bars higher or lower then the skid plates? I'm assuming they'd be higher or at least inline with, but sillier things have happened... we found in the sand that the only way to keep the things from getting stuck was to floor it.... doing 30-40km/h, the momentum of the truck was plenty to keep it moving foreward, the skid plates basically turned the truck into a giant tobbagan... not healthy for the trucks, but you've got to do what you've got to do. Though the bigger tires and lift kit should perform much better, having the nerf bars anywhere below the skid plates can't be a good idea...
4. Is the winch for self-recovery or is it capable of towing?
5. Is the moving of the shackles on the front from the chassis to the bumper going to be a standard? (On a side note, is there a way to get the silly things off? Bit of a sore point with me, couldn't figure out how to get the shackles off, always had to tow either via the vehicles own pintle hook, or with another set of shackles)
6. Is the rear mounting of the spare tire going to be standard? Can the swing arm be moved while a cargo trailer is attached?
7. Are the additional brush gaurds on the rear lights going to be standard? Are they screwed or welded? (Are they really even that useful? I mean, why not, but also can't imagine it's going to make changing a lightbulb all that easy...)
8. Is the mesh across the front bush guard going to be standard? (I figured the front bush guard was sufficient as is, and more importantly, possessing a short stature, and stubby little arms as I do, I generally have to stand on the front bumper to perform a check of all the fluids under the hood)
9. Are there any non-visible additions to the vehicle?
10. Are they buying tire chains for winter use? Or is this the sort of thing that's an LPO?
11. Is chev still going to maintain the upgraded milcots?
12. Is the lift a body or a chassis lift?
Line Milcots:
I've been told that the line milcots are slated for a similar upgrade. Does anyone know if the silly plastic skid plate on the front is due to be replaced? And if more skid plates are going to be installed to protect the fuel tank? Given the less-reliable state of the line LSVWs, having a more off-road capable line milcot would be a huge asset.
