Military Discounts List

In reference to GO service now being free for veteran's that was in the 'High Speed Trains" thread.

Went to the Aldershot station in Hamilton on April 17th, and the lady was awesome in talking me through getting the card. Show ID, buy a Presto card [$4], put a balance of five cents on it, and then she sticks it in her little card reader and changes it to 'Veteran". ....Done.

PRESTO cards can only accommodate one pass.

IE: If your PRESTO is already set for Senior, it can't accommodate both Senior and Veteran / military.

Found that out when when the GO Station Attendant added my NDI 75 to my PRESTO. It knocked my Senior pass off.

So, they took the NDI 75 off the PRESTO, and told me to carry it separately, in case anyone asks for it . I don't tap on or off GO trains or buses.

Metrolinx says Union - Pearson Express ( UPX ) will also be free with NDI 75, or military ID.

When? "Pretty soon."

She also mentioned that they have the TTC and the Hamilton bus system in on it for the first fare when you get off the GO system.

Free transfers between GO and these systems,

TTC, Durham Region Transit, Milton Transit, Grand River Transit, Guelph Transit, Oakville Transit, MiWay, Brampton Transit, Hamilton Street Railway (HSR), Burlington Transit, Bradford West Gwillimbury Transit, York Region Transit (YRT), and Peel Region's TransHelp. If you’re a Barrie Transit rider, you’ll continue to receive free fare.

Why would you want it for 'Senior" when 'military' is free?

Military is only free on GO Transit. At this time.

Not on UPX or local transit. If your PRESTO is not coded for Senior, but only military, you will pay full fare.

If you do not use UPX or local transit, or don't mind paying full fare, then "no problem".

I have not been to a Red Lobster restaurant in years but I was looking at the Red Lobster Endless Shrimp promotion when I discovered that there is a military discount. I would call ahead to see if they do indeed offer the military discount to avoid disappointment.

For those needing new boots, Aku has a military discount program, just need a picture of your mil or vet ID to verify the account. discounts are significant, and honestly the best pair of combat boots I've ever had, and my wife loves the hiking boots.
