Downtown fight sends man to hospital with head injury

A military police officer faces a charge of aggravated assault after a fight in downtown Halifax sent another man to hospital with a head injury.

Christopher Michael Vining, 23, has since been released from custody.

Two men in their early 20s got into a fist fight at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday and one was seriously injured after falling and hitting his head, said Staff Sgt. Barb Saunders of Halifax Regional Police.

The fight happened at Market and Blowers streets, also known as Pizza Corner.

Saunders said the men do not appear to know each another.

The major crime and forensic units were called to the scene.

Perhaps the possibility that alcohol may have been involved and whether or not the MP was on duty could have been mentioned ...    ::)

Man oh man....that place is packed with drunk a$$holes stuffing their faces with donairs and looking for fights.  Avoid it like the plague.

At that time of the morning (or night, as it were), anyone going to Pizza Corner could wind up in such a situation.  They should have an "enter at own risk" sign for that area when all the bars let out - it's notorious.

Sounds like a 3 hits fight.

Drunk guy #1 gets lippy and hits drunk guy #2

Drunk guy #2 hits drunk guy #1

Drunk guy #2 hits the ground flat on his back

-OR-

Donair and pizza slice - $8

Ambulance ride - $195

Finding out the guy who sent you the the hospital is an off-duty Military Police Officer you could lay assault charges on, possibly screwing up his career and squeezing some cash out of - priceless

I wonder if they know that the area is monitored with security cameras. Hopefully, the security cameras were working to establish who was the aggressor.

As Count said, it was like that 15-20 years ago... some things never change.

"Pizza Corner" sounds like a deadly place:

That murder actually happened a couple of blocks from Pizza Corner.  However, you are right in that trouble seems to migrate towards that area at bar closing.

Crazy, I always heard it, but for my few visits over the years to get a donair after a bit 'o wobbly, it was well behaved. Cameras are a good thing, some stuff going on these days is quite deplorable.

...oh it's fine, as long as you go  before 2am.  After that the drunks come out of the bars.  I actually have a family member that works at King of Donair and we take the kids there all the time for a slice......during the day of course.
