Hey guys,

I'm not sure what the right protocol for this is, so just point me to the right direction if needed.

For cinema class I, along with classmates, will be producing a short movie (about 5 minutes) and we are in the process of figuring out what footage we need. We might (we're not 100% sure right now) need some footage of soldiers parading and generally looking like a bunch of, well, soldiers, and thought that instead of trying to find the right footage in a movie and having to go through the process of acquiring the rights to use it in our movie, we might just film a sequence ourselves. We really don't need much footage, as the soldier images would only be a minor part of the short movie, but it would be helpful.

So, what I want to ask is, would it be possible for a filming team (3 people with a camera and maybe spotlights) to go to a unit in the Montreal area and shoot a few sequences, or do we have to contact MND to get pre-shot footage, or what? I assume we would have to contact the unit CO and ask permission, but is there anything else to it?

As I said in the beginning, just point me in the right direction if I'm doing this wrong, and I apologize if it's the case.

If you have info or would be able to either let us come and film, either drop me a PM or e-mail me at [email protected]

Thank you,

-Frederik Genest

For filming in Montreal, try starting by contacting the Public Affairs section at the Area Headquarters in Montreal:

Don't know if it's fitting.. but would it maybe be easier to film a cadet parade or something?  Just a thought.

Hadn't thought about that... But I don't know if cadets would look old enough (obviously). Thanks for the idea though.

I'll contact Public Affairs and meet up with my team and decide afterwards.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

OR you could request some videos on combat camera http://www.combatcamera.forces.gc.ca/video_e.htm
