With the history Egypt has with Israel this can only mean trouble. Why does Egypt suddenly have a desire to purchase arms and "Nuclear" power from Russia? Could it be that if they go nuclear Israel might think twice about messing with them? I don't think Israel will take Egypts' word that they just want Nuclear energy and have no bigger agenda.

Russia is taking huge advantage of the destabilization of the middle east by selling arms and other equipment. Russia is like Nicholas Cages' character in "Lord of War". They are always searching for that next big arms deal. Somewhere in Moscow there is a fat cat arms dealer watching the world news and rubbing his hands together in delight.

This will be interesting to watch as it unfolds.  See link below for details.

Israel is watching the Russia/ Egypt deal very closely. Remember Russia is also suppling missiles to Iran. See link below.

Same with the fat cats in New York, Paris, London, Beijing, etc. Russia is far from being the only arms dealer out there.

Besides, after what happened to Lebanon this summer, can you really blame Egypt for wanting a stronger military?

I agree with you that there are other arms dealers but Russia is the biggest in the Middle East. Defense contractors are currently seeing record profits. As long as the world remains paranoid they make money. My concern is that the world is returning to a Cold War concept of stockpiling nuclear arms and using their existence as an intimidation tactic. If everyone has nukes someone eventually is going to get an itchy finger and push the button.

Part of the problem, IMO, is that recent US behaviour has made a lot of these smaller countries believe if they have nukes then they can deal with the US from a position of strength.  They believe they can do whatever they want and the US will negotiate rather than retaliate.
