Hello everyone, let me say thank you in advance for your input

I'm a 16 year old male with hopes of becoming a infantry officer, I would appreciate it if anyone would be able to poke holes in my plan.

I'm staying an extra year at high school to take the militia co-op

I'm planning to join the reserves when i'm 17

Once I am done high school i;m going to apply to the RMC for either the military and strategic studies or military psychology and leadership program.

After I graduate i plan to join the infantry (which i have to anyways)

Thank you again for any advice

JP

First off, why do you 'Have to'?

Infantry is a full trade at the moment that is over capacity. Not trying to burst your bubble, but as we withdrawal out of the sandbox, unless we do the rumored Congo or anything, Infanty will probably be asked to do transfers from what I've read on the boards.

How're your marks? RMC is very very competitive and I've seen guys with 95%-iles not get accepted. ROTP could be another option for you, however.

Speak with one of the recruiters to get some ideas. There are a lot of trades that you could find interest in IF Infantry is not available.

Good luck and welcome to the forums!

From what I understand anyone who attends RMC is required to serve I believe 5 years

That is pretty disheartening, which sections of the army are looking for more members?

Check out the forces website for a list of trades in demand right now, or call up a CFRC.  Numbers for this recruiting year are also expected to be announced (and I'm sure will be posted EVERYWHERE on this site) at the start of the new fiscal year in April.

Also, bear in mind ROTP numbers are different, as they are 'future jobs,' and I believe they have their numbers much earlier than the intake for 'present' (for lack of a better term) jobs.

IE.  In my ROTP interview in January, my interviewing officer looked at the list of trades and their respective intake numbers and we discussed which trades I would list, in which order.

As the CFRC staff told me when I first walked in 'ROTP (including RMC) is always a little different...'

I wonder if the same can be said for NCMSEP applicants?

I think NCMSEP numbers come out in April as well. I am pretty sure the CF is not hiring too many Directly for Kingston as there is a Backlog for POET as far as I know.

I did the reserve co-op ten years ago (back when we didn't get paid for our time) and I loved it. It also made me sure I wanted to go reg force and it looked really good on my RMC application. After my co-op, I received an early offer from RMC. Just make sure to keep the grades up because if the grades are not good, unfortunately, RMC won't even look at you. It's much more competitive now than when I joined and my average out of OAC was in the mid 90s. Good luck and I really recommend doing the co-op to see if the military life is right for you.

Unless things have changed since I was at RMC, you must serve 1 1/2 months for every month you are in school. That being said, if you don't even want to serve 5 years, why are you joining?  If you decide you don't want to serve your time you must pay back your tuition, an amount which will depend on how much time you have served. That's just my own  :2c:
