Navy captain faces pornography charge

Given the fact that it is so easy to surf onto an adult site these days without even trying. I only know what is written in this report, but I kind of think a court martial  is going to far. What do you guys think?
Unless there are logs of him surfing porn for hours and hours, then that is different. Either way, isn't the easy solution to put adult link blocks on his internet connection, and maybe a warning rather than a court martial?

OTTAWA - A senior officer in the Canadian military has been charged with using a Defence Department computer to surf pornographic websites.

Navy Captain David Banks will face a court martial later this month.

Military police charged Banks after an investigation revealed a computer at the Defence Department headquarters in Ottawa had been used to visit porn sites.

Banks is one of the military's top financial experts.

He is in charge of the department that funds equipment purchases and calculates the cost of sending troops on foreign missions.

A military spokesperson said Banks faces possible dismissal from the forces if found guilty.

Now I hate to be a wet blanket here but surely we are talking a long period and not just using the links.[cause eventually it will get to a porn site] I can't see [and hope] that they wouldn't make this much of a fuss unless its a little more involved than that. So here is someone[alledgedly] so involved in SOME kind of internet porn that he couldn't stop, even at work.
Again I'm not convicting by any means but if what I just stated is true, think about some of the more repugnant things that some people get their jollies with via the net.
I guess time will tell and either way a stupid move.

Was it just regular porn or child porn?

Child porn I could understand, but getting the axe for regular old porno? Thats pretty insane. Maybe he was looking at it a lot, and it was destracting him from his job, but even then, give warnings, or maybe have his internet connection taken away or monitored. Whats becoming of this place? Its just porn. I mean wow, come on people...poor guy...

It's not that it's "just porn". One of the things we do when we take any oath of office is to follow the rules and [ allegedly] he didn't.

Dummy, why didn't he just buy a mag or something.  Its good to see higher ups will also be held accountable for breaking the rules.  The rule may be silly, but we don't pick and choose which orders to follow.

Sorry folks, bottom line, the guy's a dummy. He's on a department computer in the office (as I understand it), company equipment on company time. What year is this? This guys making fiscal decisions that effect the CF, and yet he isn't aware enough to wait until he gets home?? Do we want numpties such as this in the CF?

No worries, I'm certain he'll land a decent job in any number of companies that handle DND contracts eh? Poor guy :
