Yeah.. i know.. someone is going to say.. look up a previous topic.. I DID....

I can't find the topic where an individual out west was giving handsets to mil pers
at a great discount.... am i remembering that correctly?

I did find a thread on views of the different companies...

I'm supposed to be working in a hospital for the next year and will
have to be on call.  So, might as well bite the bullet and get a phone.

So.. anyone who has a line on good phones, packages, or knows of the
thread i'm thinking of... help would be appreciated...

thanks to Autumns.... for the PM and information....

"Rogers Imaginewireless in Calgary (will ship to anywhere) offers for military personnel (and their dependants) a fee cell phone and a special plan the gives 200 mins, free evenings and weekends, two months free voicemail, caller id and text messaging, free case for the phone, 3 months "freedom of speech" (local calls are unlimited).  The phone will work anywhere in the world! (neither Bell or Telus phones will).  The person who looks after this program is ex-military, call Marc @ 403-561-6534 (anytime) or e-mail his blackberry @ [email protected]

There are tons of other deals for servicemen (and families as well)!"

Found on page 7 of military discounts.....

Get a BlackBerry.. I have one and I love it.... they don't call them "crackberry" for nothing, they are addictive and sometimes I'd be lost without it. It works on MS Outlook, with the calendar, tasks etc.

Best.Phone.Ever.

Cheers.

LOL

and the $$$ it takes to get one......

unless you take a 3 year plan... which i'm not willing to risk....

though.. it would be nice.. i agree....

Rogers has some great deals on very dependable phones, especially for CF pers - less than $30/month over 3 years. No risk with Rogers!  Having some commitment problems, big guy!

I used to use Rogers and I had a $35/mo plan with all the bells and whistles. But when the bill came in I always owed them closer to anywhere from $250 - $400 a month. No amount of phone calls/complaints/letters got me out of the incredible 'other charges'. After my 3 year contract expired I ditched the phone and Rogers.

I use Bell now and I have a plan that is about $39/mo. For $5.00 per month I get unlimited long distance calling in Canada. For another $5.00 I get unlimited weekend calling. My last bill was $51.00 and that was while I was in Borden (I live in BC) and I used the phone all the time after secure. To me, they don't lie about what their plans include, Rogers was so full of double-speak I couldn't figure it out for 3 years, so I gave up.

Trinity said he was going to work in a hospital - so a local plan is likely all he needs.  I get 2 phones and a Rogers family calling plan for $51.00/month.

All Cell phone plans in Canada are set up the same;

Base Plan cost i.e. $35
System access Fee    6.95
911 emergency Fee    .50 to $1.00

Anything else is "features"
Caller Id  $5
Voicemail $5
Enhanced VM $8
Text Messaging $2-$20
Net Browsing $2- $100

Of course there are taxes. In canada there is an out of area charge as well. It's really roaming but they don't call it that. $0.25 p/min if you receive a call outside your "local calling area" you can make local calls to any area you are currently travelling in for just your minutes, no surcharge. I.E. you have a phone and your local are is Vancouver and you go to Barrie, you can call anyone in Barrie for just your minutes. Rogers also has a long distance in Canada package called "Canadian One Rate" it makes are your calls like local calls. They also have one for Canada and the US called "Digital One Rate" Watch your phone bill, and of course you read that agreement you just signed right?

I am Roger's challenged. Any company that buries hidden fees into every bill just annoys me. I don't deal with them for cable and you couldn't pay me to be their cellular customer anymore.

How does a $35/mo plan turn into upwards of $300? Ask them, they don't know but that's what the bill says so just pay up.

Thats called using up your minutes and going over time.  Also some plans don't even include minutes.  The one my mom has costs 10 cents a minute but you always pay 35 a month.  Talk about weird.

Rogers is right out of 'er.  They insist that I owe them over $600 but have been unable to tell me for what service, when the charges were accrued, or to provide an invoice to prove that, at the very least, it's actually in their records.  Needless to say, I told them what they could do with their demands, and now deal only with Bell.  I'm actually considering suing Rogers due to the fact that their attempts to bill me are bringing down my credit rating.  Anyone interested in a class action? :P

Thre's actually a class action against Bell for the very same thing.

Now that Rogers had bought out Fido I'm more than a tad nervous. As soon as my contract is up I will take a serious look at Virgin. Bell no way sorry lousy service (oxymoron if ever there was one) and also full of hidden charges etc, also no triban ( international) service, same ith Telus.

Tess you're just looking for an excuse to go back and visit Mom and Yellowshirt, admit it. Don't worry my buddy who owns the sports bar down the street has finally finished and opened his roof top patio.

Good, I don't want Mom thinking we're returning because of her good looks, excellent service or math skills. ::)

BTW, I'll be back the week of the 19-22 and the week of 26-29 Sept.

I'm in! I tossed the phone away and told Rogers I wasn't paying anymore. I think my bill was around $159 at the time. They kept on billing me but couldn't explain how I got from a $159 one mo to $289 the next even though I hadn't used the phone and my monthly plan was around $39. They refused to cancel my account until it was paid in full. Paying in full was impossible because of their billing. They bill in advance so you never have a zero balance. That's a great little trick.

They charge you a month in advance for your plan and a month behind for any overage charges on your minutes or usage of text, browser etc. They can't charge you if they don't know what you use. It's not a trick, every cell phone company does it the same way. In truth most service providers charge you in advance.

I know but I didn't use the phone. It was a scam IMO. I use Bell and haven't had any issues with them.
