Hey guys,
I have an application as a "Reservist" (pending security clearance) for Infantry.
I have waited a year... and finally today I got a call from DND and they stated the results were "Positive"
However, they mentioned "The regiment is currently NOT hiring for the position you applied for"
I have done my CFAT, passed my PT, and now Cleared... but if no position available... what am I going to do next?

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

PS: I know i am an FNG... but please do not send me a Tim Horton's application form, and  keep the "flaming" to a minimum.

Now, you wait. Contact the Recruiter monthly to make sure he knows you're still interested and to ask if vacancies are expected in the future.

^ This!

also keep up your personal PT, and keep an open mind when speaking with your recruiter.

Definitely staying positive and on the ready !  Congrats so far. Perhaps consider advancing your education in the meantime.  This can help pass the time and benefit you down the line ?

Depending on where you live you might find another reserve regiment near by.  There are 3+ (?) reserve regiments in Toronto. Ottawa has 2 locations for reserve infantry.
You could also choose to drive a bit of a distance to a regiment. How bad do you want in? Ours has over a half dozen soldiers who live close to 100KM away and car pool in every Thursday (and some Tuesdays too)
Depending on the regiment they may very well help you with milage too. Nothing crazy, say like .10 cents a KM but it's better than nothing.

What city are you in?

Thank you, guys..
So there is a waiting list? I was afraid the application will expire after a certain time.
From what I was told.. CFAT scores are forever, PT Test Results are valid for 6 Months, and Medical Exam- once administered, is good for another 6 Months.. This has been my dream, and to be quite honest. I've planned around this application and have already made drastic changes to my career.  As exhausting as this process is, I have been patiently waiting..  and when I got the phone call today, my excitement started turning into frustration.. and as determined as I am, it does take its toll. I am simply worried about "repeating" the whole process again.
I'm in Mississauga, and I signed up for the Royals in Toronto.. It's not a far distance since I can travel by Go Train along the lakeshore.

Toronto Scotish Regiment
Queens Own Rifles
The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry
Lorne Scots
48th Highlanders
Lincon and Welland Regiment

Some of thes regiments have multiple companies, meaning different areas. The Lorne Scots for example have 3 according to wikipedia.  Oakville Brampton and Georgetown.

I don't know Toronto very well (or distances etc..) but the Royal Regiment of Canada isn't the only reserve regiment in the Toronto area, you should research and see how close the other regiments are to you.

I beleive you may have to do certian portions again if they expire for whatever reason, but it's not like you'll have to redo everything. Just an update medical or something if it passes a certain time mark. Keep in contact with your recruiter and I'm sure they'll let you know what is necesary.

In Mississauga, you're right in the middle of everything.  I can't say how many units there are now, but back in the 80s, there were over 40 Reserve units in the Toronto Garrison (the annual Garrison Ball was quite colourful).  The ones listed above are all infantry, but there are armour, artillery, combat engineer, medical and service units as well.  Then there are the Air and Naval Reserves to think about.

One word of advice, even though it has already been stated, call them monthly even though you might be sure that nothing has changed since the previous call, you can never be sure. For example I have also applied for the reserves on October and for the last two months i have been continually calling them and was always told to call back in September as they were supposedly not running a BMQ this summer, but I kept my head up high and continued to call and I got the call a week ago that they are running a BMQ during the summer and that they told me I was 1 out of 5 picked to be sent out.

So just to say again Keep your head up high, continue to call them, and mabye the most important thing of all, continue your PT as you do not want to be caught off guard when they finally call you up saying you have 3 weeks till Basic.

Best of luck.
