Good day,

I hope you all are doing well, to give context next course is BMOQA; since this very likely the last time I will have fun in the CAF before I am stuck at a desk for the majority of my career I would like to make the most out of it. I figured if I was strong enough to hold my weapon like this at BMOQA it would make missions more fun as I could just run in a fire off a lot of rounds.

What exercises can I do to be able to hold the c6 or c9 upright like how this guy is doing.

Currently I am 200 lbs 5'11, 145 lbs OHP, able to lateral raise 50 lb dumbell for 3 reps (crappy form for this one)

but I still don't even have enough strength to hold the C7 up for more than 45 seconds; what SPECIFIC exercises should I do to be able to hold my guns up for longer?

EDIT: I did forgot to mention I only want to learn this technique for BMOQA just to fuck around haha, I wouldn't use this in a real world scenario

If you are holding the weapon like that in a firefight you are pretty much ineffective, and will likely be singled out by the enemy and topped in short order, thus putting your section/ platoon at a firepower disadvantage. There may be situations where you will fire from the hip for short periods, which bears practicing to a certain extent.

I commend your fitness goals, but being smarter and working as a team is always more important where the meat meets the metal ;)

So long as you start each shooting serial with the prowords “Leeroy….*Jenkins!” you should be able to hold a C9 or C6 no problem. Enjoy running in and firing off a lot of rounds. 👍🏼

As many reps as possible until failure.
Unless you're Jack Black..... then the magic # is 1!

As for hip firing the C6....

I recommend Redman for exercise:

Better to learn about section tactics and work on your long term fitness. You be carrying the bloody thing and ammunition for miles and then digging in. Learn about camouflage and not being seen in the modern battlefield. Learn these things and you will be a useful part of a section.

Instead of watching wannabe soldiers of fortune on YouTube and worrying about how much fun you may or may not have on course, consider taking your future job seriously and focus on how to do it proficiently. You can start by learning proper theory and employment of machine guns... you know, the stuff that'll actually help you be effective at leading soldiers in battle.

However, hitting the gym is still a good idea.

And on that note . . .

take a barbell, hold it in the fire position and stay there as long as you can. When you can do that for 2 minutes add a weight to the far end.

Does course staff allow this these days? On course if we tried that all hell would have rained down. "get down, proper fire position, effective fire to cover your friends!!"

I think this one is asked and answered. I'm locking it up before the dog pile gets bigger...
