Hello all, I have turned to this forum for some extra advice.

I am currently a candidate on the ACC (not to be confused with the previous ACC). As a reserve armoured soldier this course is now taking the place of ARCC. It is a modular course that has been recently rolled out. It is currently being conducted fulltime at the Armour School and part time in 4 Div. We are the first two courses. The beef, is basically ARCC. In Mod 1 I am building on my PLQ skills as it applies to Battle procedure. I spent my first weekend learning to follow battle procedure again and give a crew brief. Crew orders if you will.

While I did not find this TOO difficult during my PLQ-L (there's always a little spin on course) I am finding this course to be more difficult. There are a lot of automatic fails and a very tough staff. (I should mention that they have provided more than ample opportunities for extra help, however, being a sole soldier from another Bde, the Flu, my unit responsibilities, a full time Civy job and every other excuse that I might be able to come up with, I have not utilized their extra help that they have offered) I take full responsibility))

I have completed a few soft assess which have helped, however with my PO Check coming up this next weekend, I am becoming more concerned. While I have other responsibilities unit-wise this week, I have decided to dedicate the remainder of my time to self teaching. I plan to make some Traces and time myself taking them, as well as give crew briefs to members of my unit who live in the local area. Rewarded by beers, of course.

I was hoping that there may be people in this forum who have completed the old ARCC,ARPC or ACC who may be able to give me some tips. Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Mod note - corrected title. ARPC is patrol commanding, ARCC/ ACC is crew commanding. There is a huge difference.

Not sure of the exact issues but a few pts from me:

1.  follow your time appreciations.  When it comes to traces, remember your time appreciation AND your priority of info to copy.
2.  follow your aide memiore/TTP/checklists.
3.  focus on the weak areas and say "what do I need to fix this".  Once you figure that out...do it.
4.  Don't over-focus.
5.  Concurrent activity - always.

Its sounds like you're on what was called QL6A when I did it ('97); Part 1 was Crew Comd'ing and Part 2 was Patrol Comd'ing.  6A students had similar issues to overcome;  we had our BP timing down to 45mins from the words "Wng O!" to sitting on the LD.  It can be done.

Well, that's certainly a change from last year. Count your lucky stars to do it only on weekends because if it was the old system, you'd be in Gagetown in PV doing it.

If you fail, so what. It'll give you a leg up when you do the course again next year.

Regards
