The Honourable Bernard Valcourt, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) (la Francophonie), and the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, on behalf of the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, today announced plans to construct a new armoury to be located in Edmundston, New Brunswick. This new facility will provide a 1524 m2 building which will accommodate “A” Company of the First Battalion of the Royal New Brunswick Regiment in Edmundston, and will be used for training and equipment maintenance.

This new building will replace the existing facility which is currently being leased by the Department of National Defence. Constructing a new armoury owned and operated by the Canadian Forces offers numerous benefits to the personnel of the Royal New Brunswick Regiment. The new facility, to be located on Martin Street in Edmundston, will offer a high visibility, centrally located site. The new location would be in closer proximity for the majority of local soldiers, significantly reduce travel distances while offering a larger space for training and operations.
This project is currently in its design phase. Once this phase is completed, the project will be assessed prior to the start of construction; project costs will be solidified at that point. The Government of Canada will conduct open, fair, and transparent competition processes in order to award the contracts associated with this project ....
