This gizmo, helmet mounted, projects an image onto your eyball that shows up to three different maps as 17 inch circles at the bottom of your vision without obstructing your line of sight.

Vehicle commanders can now keep their heads out of the hatch and not have to keep bobbing up and down to view the screens inside.  Apparently they were bobbing up and down 60 to 70 times per hour trying to maintain situational awareness.

I think that as soon as we put as much work towards the man-machine interface for ground systems as we do for air assets we'll see an exponential rise in soldier lethality. I think this is a step in the right direction and being able to direct weapons with such a system can't be far off. Imagine an individual soldier being able to identify the exact location of a target lust by looking at it. I have seen similar systems in use in helicopters, once the technology is sufficuent to make it practical for a foot soldier, or at least as soldier in a gournd based veh, the individual soldier will be able to identify threats and assign weapons to individual targets. The future isn't that far off.

Thanks for the article, very interesting.
