Ok....

Today's Toronto Star article might have had an interesting affect on the site today....

I've never seen so many new 1 time posters in my life.... mind you the questions
were pretty poor and for the most part I refrained from the sarcasm... except for AAAA
who obviously needs some guidance.

Anyone else see the mass influx or am I just having hallucinations from eating
HitorMrs cooking? (turkey.. mmmmm good)

maybe "AAAA" is freinds with "bbbb" ?  (anyone remember him ?)

Oh yes, bbbb, the guy who claimed to go to RMC then got banned when he it was discovered he does not in fact go to RMC. He is also responsible for attempting to steal my old email address when he signed up at Cadet World forums, again claiming to be an RMC cadet. These people never cease to amaze me.

Seriously.. out of all the identities to steal.... they chose yours?  :D

I know, they choose to steal the identity of some handsome RMC cadet with nothing but promise in his future (I know, all lies...) when they could have claimed to be... YOU! lol

Even I deny to be myself.

Yes, it has been quite a day for newbies.  I wish that they would read the Rules of Conduct before they start posting.  Too many using MSN Speak to have any semblance of a professional dialogue.  Too many claiming to be someone who they aren't and giving it all away simply because they can't spell or use good grammar.  Come on now!  If you were an officer, you'd know how to spell and write a decent report/statement.  I know that the title of this Topic will probably attract many of them to this thread so I should include this:

Any way of having this "stickied" so that when they register it's the first thing that they have to read?

As much as that would be nice, they would still ignore it.  It is all in the 'Registration' process; and as has been mentioned before, very few read it there.  All we can do is keep it highlighted in a second window and post it as soon as an 'offending party' makes a post.  Periodically you will notice several Mods posting the same notices simultaneously on a new poster.  Depends on how many coffee we have had....  ;D

Maybe its a problem with the registration process.  Instead of being automated make it controlled by the mods.  Manditory fields in profile would be a bonus as well.  Not to judge somebodies opinion by their profile so much as showing their credentials in order to understand their background and experience.

Maybe it's time for the site to evolve??

When I became a member, times were indeed different no war for one.  There was certainly much more latitude with posting of information on this site.  OPSEC was not an issue,  this site was a subculture of it's own with predominately CF members and the media did not know this place existed.  Even the CF copy cat site (forget the name of it) went under as it this became the accepted standard.

Currently, this is  a public site open to all and with that comes the terrritory of uninformed uknown posters, trolls with agendas and a spying media.  At this point, you can't have the way it use to be. A quiet little Army oasis that linked us all coast to coast. It's time to role with the changes.  Either accept the current way of doing business or walk away and take a break from here awhile.  Let the mods do their thing it works from what I can see.

The only suggestion for thought that may balance the openness of this site and the inherited problems would be to make some of the areas more exclusive to Subscribers (example only) ie. the Newsroom,Parade Square, the Field for Subscriptions and leave the others for public access.??  This would throw the onus back onto some of these trolls making them jump through a few more hoops before wasting mods time and more importantly putting their money were their mouth is.  At least making it profitable before the ban and covering cost for waste of bandwidth ;D  The new user could cut their teeth on the more mundane areas, learn the ethics and culture here and the if interested they could step up, subscribe and be assimulated and obtain access to the more interesting areas...

Too drastic?

A spying media? ??? I'm a great fan of an informed media. If this is one of the sites where they receive their information, so much the better - - but ONLY because the mods and informed users keep on top of the conspiracy theorists, ravers, and trolls.

I suggest nothing be changed ....including getting worked up over the one-post wonders. Life's too short otherwise.

Journeyman,

Sorry you're right and I agree.. poor choice of words...my foul.  :salute:
