your headaches aren't caused by lack of sleep, as such. They're caused by the disruption of your sleep patterns. Your idea of quitting a month before basic is a good one. You will need to get your circadian rhythms into a pattern more compatible with what you will be doing. A few weeks before Basic, start getting up at 0530, and go to bed at 2300. Trust me, it'll help.

From one who knows night shifts, except for a few interuptions 2 weeks days/2 weeks night for more than 15 years, a month would not be required.
Within 2 days I'm back to "normal" however everyone is different, hey if you want a month and can afford it, by all means do it but, a week would be sufficient IMO.

Right now i work 5 days on, followed by 5 days on, followed by 4 days on, followed by 4 days off. That's a repeating schedule.

Each of those shifts is 12 hours,
Each block of shifts consists of 2 days and 3 nights/2 days and 2 nights.

My friend it doesn't take a few days (imho) to switch your schedule over, give yourself a week to adjust and you'll be alright, you're going to want that money you'll get from those extra shifts.
If it hardens you too, I see no problem with it (in my expert medical opinion)
And we could all stand to be a bit harder.

I think i should be OK, a month ago i took one week without working night shifts and i was back to normal, i will be OK and working night shifts only helps me to be more stronger in the army, like this if i have to stay 2 days up i could be ready, my record without sleep for now was around 28 hours and at the end i wasn't completly finished.... Thanks for your replies i am gonna get some sleep, i just finished work.
