Hi everyone, this is my first message on the forum...

I'm currently doing my BMQ (reserves) and I have been issued a list of equipment
I need for next weekend.

There is one piece of equipment I am not too sure about:

3 PRS NYLON SOCKS / BAS DE NYLON

Are those the long socks that women wear sometimes?

I am a bit confused; any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Pte Belanger

It refers to the black socks from the Sock system IIRC.

You should have received at least the following:

3 pairs grey socks
3 pairs green socks
3 pairs black socks

Like the ones in the link below, on the far right (black socks):

Extra socks wouldn't be a bad idea though, cuz those issued socks might be part of the inspection layout (atleast they would be if he was going RegF, I'm not sure how the PRes run a BMQ).

Weekend courses generally (at least on the ones I have taught on) do not have a kit layout other than:

sleeping bag folded over top of cot
rifle laid with bolt our and weapon cracked
ruck sac and duffle bag under cot

I checked in my duffle bag and I couldn't find the nylon socks :\ Do you guys know if it's possible to get those at the army surplus? (Since I'm in the reserves, we might have less equipment than the reg)

Thanks!

Go back to your clothing stores and get them......

But you did get either the grey or green socks right?

To the OP, yes the black long nylons are the ones being referred to. If your course is being run like mine, your course staff will understand that you don't have a piece of issued kit if the problem lies with a lack of supply. They will advise you as to what you should lay out instead, or not to lay it out at all. On our course, no one is laying out the nylon socks, but the greens/ grays get displayed.

I'm a huge fan of those socks from a comfort point of view though. It seems to me like I can do the two sock system all day long and have happy feet at the end of it. I'd recommend you get a set as soon as you're able to and try em out.

Depends where you go I guess. The one I'm on currently has a full kit layout each morning. Bed fully made, hospital corners etc. Ground sheet over bed with weapon field stripped and layed out properly. Full locker and drawer layout etc.

EDIT: Just re-read the original post date. Hope you got it sorted out, z1pher.

Actually, he should have been issued 5 pr of each type (1 bag) as 5 pr each is the entitlement.
