Truth or just media speculation? CTV has laid a pile of capital on this senior government contact. But then again they have seemed to have led the charge to have him fired.

The story is a fishing expedition. If it is denied, then the PM sets himself up for attacks for not dumping a 'weak' minister. If it is not commented on, then the press can continue to select successors. If it is confirmed, then the press can write stories about possible candidates and the ripple effect in the government. In any case, that is not how this PM works. About the best possible response is to say that the process is complicated and difficult, and no decisions have been made. That allows the press to speculate at will.

Do you think the PM would confide in one of his advisors, who then would leak it to a hostile news outlet? Politics is nasty, but I doubt that he would subject a minister to that kind of petty treatment. I may be wrong, but I think we have a rumour spun into a story by adding all sorts of speculation about other ministers. Just a short while ago CTV was claiming the move of O'Connor would set off a major shuffle.

If this comes to fruition, will O'Connor be anymore effective as VA Minister? I am sure some veterans that are in need of VA's assistance are shaking their heads about now.

It is very doubtful that O'Connor will be running in the next election.

That being said.

A certain retired General who loves to drive race cars has bought a house in O'Connor's Federal riding. I wonder why he would do that. ::)

Uncle Lou?

I thought he'd gone on record several times rejecting a run as a CPC candidate...or did those all predate the latest incarnation?

Now put yourself in the shoes of a Politician........What would you say?.........What would you do (later)?

See what a change of perspective can do for you?

;D

oh, not rolling my eyes at you George, but at Uncle Lew...amazing what a change a few years can make  ;D

Actually, I think he has been playing his cards rather shrewdly all along, holding them very close to his chest........waiting patiently for the right moment to play his next hand.  We shall see.  All we have is rumours, innuendo and speculation that he is indeed making future plans to run again.  Could be a Deception Plan by the Tartans to lull the Lemgolians.....I mean the Liberals, off balance.  ;D

I suspect you're right, he's almost completely untainted (I believe he spent some time on the board of a defence-related corporation), has no lobbying history, highly respected by his troops, a published author, a very credible talking head in the MSM...too bad internal politics will probably prevent him from walking right into the MND portfolio.

He'll certainly have more clout in the current government then he would have had with any recent predecessors, and who wants to run to be a member of the opposition, anyway 8)

Darn, I let the General out of the bag.

I concur, he would make an excellent MND, with his savvy and vast experience, now that would be something to see at work again. I personally would have followed that man to hell and back.
